FBI forensic expert blasts Apple ‘jerks’ for encrypting iPhones

“Ever since Apple made encryption default on the iPhone, the FBI has been waging a war against encryption, complaining that cryptography so strong the company itself can’t break it makes it harder to catch criminals and terrorists,” Lorenzo Franceschi-Bicchierai reports for Motherboard.

“On Wednesday, at the the International Conference on Cyber Security in Manhattan, FBI forensic expert Stephen Flatley lashed out at Apple, calling the company “jerks,” and “evil geniuses” for making his and his colleagues’ investigative work harder,” Franceschi-Bicchierai reports. “For example, Flatley complained that Apple recently made password guesses slower, changing the hash iterations from 10,000 to 10,000,000. That means, he explained, that ‘password attempts speed went from 45 passwords a second to one every 18 seconds.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Bwahahahahaha!

“‘At what point is it just trying to one up things and at what point is it to thwart law enforcement?’ he added. ‘Apple is pretty good at evil genius stuff,'” Franceschi-Bicchierai reports. “On the other hand, Flatley repeatedly praised the israeli company Cellebrite, which sells hacking devices and technologies to law enforcement agencies around the world. Flatley said that they are the ones who can counter Apple’s security technology.”

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. – Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759

Only an entity as broken as the U.S. FBI would consider Apple to be any sort of geniuses, given Cupertino’s recent track record of shameful software security failures.

  1. Sadly, the FBI has done far more lately to make me dis-trust them then Apple has. Things I would have never thought possible by them and their rank in file has come to light and, frankly, proven chapter and verse why these means are necessary. Very sad and infuriating. They need to be fixed NOT APPLE, and it is not like Apple has been perfect. What a mess.

  2. The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

  3. Or maybe the Chinese do not want to have their data in the US because it can be compromised by the FBI and NSA?

Europeans should also demand the move of the data to EU territory. USA is not safe now when they have this Shithole Orange Dork as a president.

  4. The shadow Government needs our help.

Please remove all locks from exterior doors and place placards welcoming in any and all government agencies so that they may ‘verify’ that everything is in order.

Also, we should have to obtain travel papers showing that we are not doing anything nefarious when not in our homes or workplace, and be required to show said papers on demand to any government agent that requests them.

We also need to ‘voluntarily’ turn in any device that can be used as a weapon (bats, clubs, any knife especially kitchen knives over 3 inches, firearms of any type, anything else the resembles a weapon), in order to ‘protect’ the social order.

Licenses will be issued to all media personnel showing completion of education courses in proper topics and terminology so as to not incite offense. These licenses will have to be re-certified regularly and on-demand by any government agent.

The government is here to take care of us, National Socialism is the way of the future(Go Bern), only as one united nation can we support global efforts of redistribution and protect our planet and ultimately, the children.
