6 reasons why Apple’s iPhone 6 has already lost or something

“With Apple’s next smartphone still months away, fans have been gobbling up iPhone 6 rumors faster than Pac-Man on a power pill bender. However, even the hottest rumor mill in tech can’t turn this device into a winner,” Avram Piltch writes for LAPTOP. “Based on everything we know now, the next iPhone will be a year late and a bitcoin short of the competition, doing nothing to slow Apple’s descent from smartphone pioneer to high tech has-been.”

Piltch writes, “Here are six reasons why the iPhone 6 has already lost.”

Weak Camera Features: While current rumors peg the iPhone 6’s camera at either the same 8-MP or a slightly higher 10-MP, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is about to launch with a 16-MP shooter, real-time HDR and goodies like Eraser Mode, which removes photobombers from your pictures, and Best Face, which helps you choose a different expression for each person in a group shot. Sony’s upcoming Xperia Z2 takes the megapixel war a step further on Android, going with a 20.7-MP lens while Nokia’s Lumia 1020 Windows Phone continues its 41-MP dominance.

Poor Battery Life, No Removable Battery: While it is possible that the iPhone 6 will include a higher-capacity battery than its predecessor, the latest rumors peg it with a much-larger 4.7 or 5.5-inch display (perhaps one model with each), which will undoubtedly consume more power… the iPhone 6 will probably ship with a Liquidmetal, unibody design that has a sealed back panel. You’ll have to opt for a battery case if you want extra juice.

• No NFC: While just about every other phone on the market, most tablets and a slew of laptops now feature Near Field Communication chips, Apple won’t touch this new technology with a 10-foot poll [sic].

• Too Few Sharing Options: I have an easier time getting a 2-year-old to share than an iPhone. While Android has a universal sharing menu that lets you send content to any share-capable service, iOS treats every app as an island unto itself… On Android, I can share from any content app to the most obscure social network or messaging service (ICQ, anyone?), as long as I have it installed.

• Weak Keyboard: iOS doesn’t allow you to install a third-party keyboard. It’s possible iOS 8 will allow more freedom, but we have no reason to believe the iPhone 6 will be any different from previous generations.

• Limited Customization: You don’t have to be a hacker to make major changes to the look and feel of your Android phone. You can add widgets to the home screen, arrange your icons in any pattern you want or even install a completely new launcher. Apple’s design philosophy, which shouldn’t change with the iPhone 6, is to design for the lowest common denominator and offer the fewest choices possible, not letting you change much about the look and feel of the UI.

MacDailyNews Take: According to Mr. Piltch, Apple’s “iPhone 6” will be the first iPhone to not set the all-time unit sales record as all other previous iPhone models have done despite the facts that:

Megapixels do not equal camera quality
– Apple’s iPhone 5s battery life beats both Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S4 and Google’s flagship Nexus 5
– Apple sets the agenda, thanks, and if Apple says NFC stands for No Fscking Chance, then it’s dead technology
– If you think the number of built-in “sharing options” means a smartphone “has already lost,” then you suck at hit-whoring
– Ditto for “third-party keyboards” and “limited customization”

Without further ado, here are our 7 reasons why Apple’s iPhone 6 has likely already won:

1. World’s best-selling smartphone: iPhone (1st gen.)
2. World’s best-selling smartphone: iPhone 3G
3. World’s best-selling smartphone: iPhone 3GS
4. World’s best-selling smartphone: iPhone 4
5. World’s best-selling smartphone: iPhone 4s
6. World’s best-selling smartphone: iPhone 5
7. World’s best-selling smartphone: iPhone 5s

  1. I dunno guys, as a recovering “I only buy company A’s goods” addict, I got tired of waiting for a screen size I could use and went with the Moto X – and “it just works” (great – altho a much inferior camera, but otherwise, dunno what I’m missing, have an extra $350 in hand, and already had a good camera).

And about a quarter of my iPhone-using friends (yeah, my anecdoctal mini-sample, whatever) are telling me they’re done with ’em when they buy their next.

Doubtless, tho’, if they finally come out with a “family” of phones (even if only two), I’m certain that even with Sir Jonny’s precious interface (if not clear, he and his aesthetic are unappealing to me), they will easily maintain their world’s #1 selling phone model by a good margin.

I will be buying this fall’s iPad, though. Android’s still way behind on the apps/functionality front in tabs.

So happily brand agnostic, free to shop the best (for me) stuff in each device category…

  2. “The next iPhone will be a year late”, indeed! The iPhone 5S was at least a year AHEAD of all other smartphones. Everybody else is still trying to catch up. Can you spell 64 bit?

  3. You guys bit. He is probably on the Samsung payroll. As a writer he gets paid to get reactions – doesn’t matter how. Or just like to inflame others with “yellow journalism”, lies and flights of fantasy.

  4. Don’t care too much about the camera
How many areas take advantage of NFC, anyways? None in my city.
Poor battery life? I get by more than a day in a single charge. Good enough for me.
Weak keyboard? It’s a keyboard, what else do I want it to do, fly?
Poor customization? Too bad majority of android users don’t even bother with that. It’s only the tech savvy that do (who are of a minority of consumers).

  5. Not being able to spend an extra $100 on a detachable keyboard is a reason the IPhone 6 is going to fail. Also, I don’t see why a removable battery matters. I have an original Iphone that I use as an iPod. The battery still gives good service. All those wonderful camera options
won’t make up for having to cart an Android phone back to the store for replacement 2 or three times a year because of defects and breakage. I remember an interview with a tech editor who was crowing about the imminent fall of Apple because of low market share in the late nineties. The interviewer asked the techie if it was true his website was designed and produced on a Mac. His answer was, “Yes. What’s that got to do with anything?” The interviewer said, “Then secretly you believe the Mac is superior to the PC in real world application?” The techie was speechless.

  6. WOW……

I have never seen so many Ignorant Apple fanboys in my entire Life…

One lame rebuttal after another, someone points out real issues and every apple cult follower gets their pannies in a knot.

Iv’e owned every Flagship from 2013 including the iphoen 5s and my wife has a ipad mini which she doesn;t use anymore since she got her note 3.

Why NFC and the Camera Complaint are more preferences everything else he makes valid points and if you don’t see that your ignorant.

  8. Well. Seeing as how Steve is dead. Apple is finally playing catch up. NFC on the device. Bigger screens. An entry level ppi and resolution for 2013. The only thing the iPhone 6 and 6 plus brings is the A8. Everything else is 2 year old standards.

  9. Apple’s major flaw isn’t in the hardware its in it’s flawed OS. IOS and OSx only apply 1 of 5 security protocols vs the 3 applied by google/android and 5 applied by microsoft. People fell for Apple’s marketing scheme and that’s why Apple remains on top not for their “innovation” nor for their “outstanding performance” they prey on the sheeple.

  10. Iphones fuckin blow…there speed has shit on an s5. ..their camera has shit on half the new phones on market. ..no nfc. …and you ca t take the battery out??? Ca t upgrade memory? And why is the price so much more when you want more memory? Why is tbe price so high at all…they sucm! Also, look at every drop test there is and iPhone ways los3s to its competitors thats why everyone is walking around with busted up iPhones lol and tbere is hardly ever any warranty for them….people thwt buy iPhones are the same dips that used to buy apple computers and get pissed that certain programs wont ru. On them and clai. Microsoft is a monopoly. …iPhones dont ha e shit on an S5. ..faster…more options. ..changeable SD…removable battery. ..better camera. ..manufacturer warranty. …cheaper. …more durable. …did i say faster yet lol
