Beleaguered Nokia slams iPhone 5 camera in parody of Apple ad (with video)

“A new advertisement from Nokia parodies Apple’s ‘Every Day’ advertisements to promote what the Finnish handset maker believes are the superior picture taking abilities of its own Lumia 925 smartphone,” Sam Oliver reports for AppleInsider.

“The commercial starts off quoting Apple’s own ad from April, which declared that ‘Every day, more photos are taken with the iPhone than any other camera,'” Oliver reports. “But Nokia’s ad goes on to say that the company builds ‘for quality, not just quantity.'”

Oliver reports, “Camera quality has long been a focus for Nokia in developing its smartphones.”

  1. The old saying is that the best camera is the one you have with you when you need it.

It has been well-known fact that the iPhone cameras have always produced among the best (if not THE best) image quality, compared to the competition, regardless of the megapixel count.

Nokia has realised that there isn’t much maneuvering room for them in the smartphone market. There is simply no way to go against iOS with Windows. So, Nokia decided that the only way they can compete is by offering a differentiating piece of hardware that could possibly stand out and attract interest.

A massive megapixel number is an incredibly effective marketing gimmick. People are intrigued and talking about it. This is about the best possible thing that could have ever happened to Nokia. Being saddled with the hopeless turd (=Windows 8 Mob), this was about the only way they could actually motivate people to buy their phone.

There is no doubt in my mind that this phone will be inconsequential (from iPhone’s sales numbers angle), but I have to commend Nokia for figuring out how to build and sell a phone that has such a boat anchor around its neck (Windows).

  2. Before I received my first iPhone I would get Nokia mobile phones. So it almost pains me to see Nokia still hasn’t seen what they should be doing, instead of making these blunders.

I see Nokia has cut down on the number of models of mobile phones they produce. But I will counted 16 models on the Australian Nokia web site. That’s still way too many in my opinion, both in terms of competing models and even in logistics and inventory.

Plus I don’t see Nokia having an eco system in the way Apple does. I don’t think Nokia should necessarily produce their own computers and operating system but I’m sure there are other ways of providing a seamless experience.

But most damingly I think Nokia just doesn’t have the sense of taste that Apple has.

  3. That is just sad by Nokia… These attack ads from Goosug and Nokia smells desperation and really reaffirms how dominant Apple is. I know most people would not see it like this but I kinda see it as a testament to how good ad big Apple has become.
