“Microsoft is planning to cut the price of its Surface RT tablets,” Tom Warren reports for The Verge.
“Sources familiar with Microsoft’s Surface plans have revealed to The Verge that the price cut could occur as early as next week, with each model being cut by $150,” Warren reports. “Microsoft’s move to cut prices on its Surface RT tablets follow slow sales, and efforts to sell the devices elsewhere at lower rates.”
Warren reports, “Staples has confirmed the price cut in a listing in its weekly promotional ads. The price cut comes into effect on Sunday July 14th.”

Juli Clover reports for MacRumors, “Microsoft has heavily marketed Windows 8 tablets in recent weeks, pitting several different tablets against Apple’s iPad in a series of ads… Despite the pricing cuts, Microsoft has suggested that new versions of both the Surface Pro and the Surface RT are in the works, along with a number of new accessories.”

Even if a turd costs $150 less it’s still a turd.
It’s the same old story for any tablet that tries to go head-to-head with iPad. Price cuts and eventual fire sale. And once the price goes low enough, those Surface tablets will get sold (at a loss), and Microsoft will claim success. We have a sellout!
Amazon gets it. Don’t try to compete directly with iPad. Go where Apple will not go, low quality and cheap. Kindle Fire sells at a loss at fire sale prices, BY DESIGN!
Kindles don’t sell at a loss, they just sell at no profit.
They profit by jamming ads in your face, stealing data. And selling you useless amazon services.
Very good way to get money from the poor who can’t afford an iPad
Something that is supposedly calculated to sell at exactly “no profit” is bound to be selling at a loss, in the real world, if you count the cost of returns (and other unpredictable expenses).
Lol. At a glance I thought it said they’d cut the price TO $150. I thought, “That’s cheap! Would I want one for that?” Then, “Nope.”
Then I saw it’s only a $150 cut. Good luck with that.
Yeah me too. They wouldn’t sell that fast actually AT $150.
Another set of paving stone for the garden.
If you pay me 150 I could use it as a bedside Netflix player…..
Other than that I can’t think of any uses
It makes an excellent 1 time only frisbee!
Havent see this Surface thing for awhile. Even in my store. I guess I should check if they are around still.
I saw one yesterday! It was on the Returns shelf at Microcenter.
I wonder if it would have been such a flop if it was introduced six months before the iPad? (or two month before the iPhone?
Or in 1978?
Yes, it would still flop.
Every version of windows Is stolen, not secure, buggy, slow, and full of crap
Office is dead man walking
Xbox 1 was a PC in a box, with stolen Mac games like halo
Xbox 360s break all the time
Windows 7 and 8 phones are ripped from iOS and not made well,
Literally everything Microsoft has ever produced is crap and inferior to apple
If? If my aunt had balls, she would be my uncle.
I wonder if the Segway would have been such a flop if it were introduced 6 months before the moped.
Or the bicycle.
Or the wheel.
An impossible scenario.
Microsoft has to be shown the future of computing before they are capable of creating a 1/2 rate knockoff.
And just exactly _when_ did you see something, anything, from µ$oft that came before Apple’s?
MS Basic on paper tape. With an S-100 memory card that didn’t actually work properly most of the time.
Hey DJ, get ready to play “Desperado” by The Eagles.
What does GWAK mean?
The Urban Dictionary it is slang for female genitals. Aren’t you glad you asked?
Actually, in the MDN universe it means Garbage With A Kickstand. 😉
Or Garbage With A Klick.
Package it with a Kin and a Zune
And an Edsel
WOW, Accessories!!!! Count me in!!
We’re gonna Zune! We’re gonna Zune Zune! Come on and Zune a Zune a Zune. We’re gonna Zune a Zune a Zune a Zune.
Microsoft Surface RT is a great tool. Since I started using it I offloaded the lethargic iPad to a relative. Those who are attacking the Surface either they did not use it or just bandwagon slammers who would condemn Microsoft even for a charity work..
Microsoft Enterprise users, notice how your prices are going up. You’re not buying RT tablets, but you’re now paying for them!
Man! it is so lower priced now, why are they doing that just because the sales were not up to the mark, but they are selling it at no profit.
