Somersby Cider’s new TV advert, “The Somersby Store” leans heavily on apples – and Apple Inc.
Apple Retail Stores and new Apple product launches, to be precise.
The ad is currently airing in the UK and possibly elsewhere in the English-speaking world where Somersby Cider is sold:
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “hugh” for the heads up.]
Now that is the way to copy Apple. A fresh and interesting approach. I wonder what Tim Cook said when he first saw it.
Free adverts for Apple. ???
JAT
I said “I wonder where I can get a taste of those apples?”
Why don’t one try email Tim Cook at tcook@apple.com?! 🙂
Brilliant!
Done with class and in “good taste”. Well done Somersby!
I wonder when Samcider is going to make an ad bashing Somersby for being too elitist.
I love it!
Yes, this was done well.
Much better than that other effort I read about-
“Microsoft Blows It Again:
Windows 8 Jizz Juice Commercial A Flop as Viewers Let Down Again…”
Very nice.
Clever ad. Carlsberg make good beer too.
I hadn’t noticed it was a Carlsberg product. Good on them… I raise a glass to their ad! 🙂
Yes of course this is a new take on their beer adverts ‘If Carlsberg made … it would be the best in the World’ an even better reflection for Apple when you think about it. Whether Carlsberg actually make good cider by making up a traditional name is another matter. We will see, but as the whole Lord Somersby malarky is bullshit not sure what else to believe in their tasting notes. Lets hope any such plastic tradition doesn’t end up reflecting upon Apple by association, likely be on to new themes in their ads by that stage thankfully.
Please tell me that Somersby Cider doesn’t taste like you’re licking the tailpipe of a bus.
When I was living in London, one of the (few) great let downs was the nasty, over-fermented, fusel oil infested industrial waste taste of cider. I couldn’t believe anyone drank that crap, it was so poorly made swill.
Cider has moved on these days, Bulmers and Strongbow were most likely great when they served their very local area in the 1870’s but by the 1970’s they were crap. I remember moonshine scrumpy made on the farm … as a 15 yr old it was beyond rocket fuel.
Dan Murphy’s one of my local bottle shops (albeit a Liquor Supermarket) here in Sydney, Australia carries over 70 different ciders from across the world. Generally if I learn about a new beverage they either already have it or can get it in.
In Australia as long as you are over 18 you can buy “inkohol” of any kind.

When the moon shines
On the cow shed
And we’re rollin’ in the hay
All the cows are out there grazing
And the milk is on its way.
I am a cider drinker
I drinks it all of the day
I am a cider drinker
It soothes all me troubles away
Oh arr oh arr aay
Oh arr oh arr aay.
It’s so cosy in the kitchen
With the smell of rabbit’stew
When the breeze blows ‘cross the farmyard
You can smell the cow sheds too.
(Oh, I’ve never smelt nothing like it in all my life!)
When those combine wheels stops turning
And a hard day’s work is done
There’s a pub around the corner
It’s the place we have our fun.
(Arr, we’ll have some fun ‘n’ all.)
I am a cider drinker
I drinks it all of the day
I am a cider drinker
It soothes all me troubles away
Oh arr oh arr aay
Oh arr oh arr aay.
(Come on, get a couple of pints down ‘ere then!)
Now dear old Mabel
When she’s able
We takes a stroll down Lover’s Lane
And we’ll sink a pint of Scrumpy
Then we’ll play old nature’s game.
(Ha ha ha!
Oo arr!)
But we end up in the duck pond
When the pub is sized to close
With me breeches full o’ tadpoles
And the newts between me toes.
I am a cider drinker
I drinks it all of the day
I am a cider drinker
It soothes all me troubles away
Oh arr oh arr aay
Oh arr oh arr aay.
(Come on everyone, get up ‘ere then!
Ha ha!)
I am a cider drinker
I drinks it all of the day
I am a cider drinker
It soothes all me troubles away
Oh arr oh arr aay
Oh arr oh arr aay
Oh arr oh arr aay
Oh arr oh arr aay.
Let cider be the spice of life!
