“Apple Inc. filed a U.S. trade complaint that seeks to block imports of Samsung Electronics Co. smartphones and tablet computers, days after asking a federal court to halt sales of the devices,” Susan Decker reports for Bloomberg.
“The ITC case, which could be heard in 15 to 18 months if the commission agrees to investigate, opens a second front in which Cupertino, California-based Apple is trying to slow Samsung’s Galaxy products before they can eat into the iPhone and iPad markets in the U.S.,” Decker reports. “Apple last week filed a request in federal court in San Jose, California, asking that sales of the Galaxy S 4G, Infuse 4G, Droid Charge and Galaxy Tab 10.1 be halted until a patent-infringement trial can be held.”

Decker reports, “‘Samsung chose to copy Apple, not to innovate,’ Apple said in a July 1 filing seeking a court ruling to halt sales. ‘The message that Samsung conveys to consumers with its imitative smartphone design is simple: ‘It’s just like an iPhone.’ Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet sends a similar message: ‘It’s just like an iPad.’ With the benefit of those messages, Samsung is seeking to take market share by trading off of the popularity of Apple’s products.'”

You gotta wonder what’s going on in the boardroom of Samsung right now.
“Our biggest customer.”
“Our R & D department.”
You have to wonder if Samsung was thinking that their component supply relationship with Apple would protect them from litigation. When you look at the products mentioned in the article, there is no denying the fact that they were built to look just like Apple’s counterparts.
You reap what you sow.
I think the best way to deal with this thieving company, Samsung, would be by Apple consumers around the world to boycott all their products. Competition is acceptable, welcomed even; stealing and then suing the hand that fed you is not acceptable. Apple may have to rely on others, judges, ITC et al., but we can vote with our wallets. I have spared a dime on MS products in decades, not giving my business to Netgear, Samsung is another name now on the list.
*I have not spent a dime…

“Apple is trying to slow Samsung’s Galaxy products before they can eat into the iPhone and iPad markets in the U.S.”
Rubbish. This is a Just War driven by Righteous Indignation.
I prefer my indignation righteous.
well, well… now that vou’ve learned a new term, learn how to apply it properly
18 months from now?
Apple losing ground. Apple seems desperate these days!
Losing ground to ??? Desperate because ???
Agree with boycotting Samsung, their products suck anyway. My last blu-ray player was made by them, my new one is Panasonic.
This lawsuit is merely the tip of the iceberg. Samsung has a history of ripping off the IP, look and feel of its customers, i.e. Sony. Apple’s just tying them in knots while preparing to eviscerate them. Goodbye A5. Goodbye RAM. Goodbye other components. Goodbye Samsung! Cat and Mouse until law suit hits. By then Apple will have pulled the bottom out. Samsung hopes to get piece of the action, but in they end they are not about software, just hardware. No ecosystem, except what they get from Google. Maybe Web OS, maybe MFT in the future, but they will be fighting for scraps, while looking to sell components to replace their big customer. About to experience free fall.
Samsung’s Strategy:
Copy, Co-Opt and Conquer.
This also seems to apply to many East-Asian contexts…
When it gets this bad you know:
Samsung is sooo screwed.
