“Preoders for the iPhone 5 went live at midnight tonight and, true to form, they went like hotcakes,” Billy Gallagher reports for TechCrunch.
“You may remember that it took 22 hours for the iPhone 4S and about 20 hours for the iPhone 4 to sell out of its pre-order, launch-day stock,” Gallagher reports. “The iPhone 5 took just about 60 minutes.”
Gallagher reports, “Yep. One hour after pre-orders went live tonight, Apple.com shifted shipping expectations from one to two weeks due to the overwhelming demand.”

sell 20 phones in 60mn….lol…
I’m glad I woke 12 minutes after the buzzer
The ship date has slipped a week, but THEY HAVEN’T SOLD OUT! They are still accepting pre-orders which I imagine will be capped off completely soon.
Not sold out per say, they appear to have sold (no one knows for sure) the run that could be delivered within a week. They are still selling the run projected run that can be delivered within 2 weeks and I suggest they might even keep it going until they expire the run than can be delivered within 3 weeks.
None of this is a surprise nor should it be. There are a lot of iPhone 4 users now moving up and no doubt some 4S as well and hopefully for Apple lots of new users.
How many of you do the AppleCare? Thoughts on the need for that? I’ve had the 1, 3G, and 4 without issue
I’ll have to wait and see if they reduce the 2-year contract business. I bought my 4s when it came out, and it currently says I’m eligible for a 5 on June 2, 2013…sad face… I imagine that in a month or two they’ll drop that requirement. It’s a bummer having to wait, but at least they probably won’t lock me into the full 2 years.
The odds makers in Vegas should be taking bets about what day it starts and what calamity will be the alleged downfall of the iPhone5. I recall antennagate on the 4, there was something about battery life and something about cracked screens. I would say this time it has something to do with the new plug configuration and will start on Wednesday, 9/26. The lawsuits will follow in two days.
Ordered a 64GB in black. My foolish mistake of buying a paltry 16GB iPhone 4 will NOT be repeated.
Agreed. I did the same. 64GB black. My poor 16GB iPhone 4 has been full forever…
I misunderestimated the amount if video I’d shoot with my phone. Turns out, it’s quite a lot, and usually the only thing that stops me is a full drive. No longer!!!
I thought no one was going to buy it because it looks like the iPhone 4 and everyone was saying it’s just a minor upgrade.

I orderedine through the app on my iPhone 4S. I already had my one-click turned on. I was in and out in two minutes. 64GB White. My friend was on his computer for about an hour doing his best to get in. I was having fun with him the whole time… Bad Dave.
How many of you are going with the AppleCare? Thoughts on its value? I have had the 1, 3G, and 4 without a hitch. Thanks!
Apple doesn’t dare to give HK per order as Apple knows the hungry iPhone buyers will hang Apple server down . The power of HK iPhone grey market is very strong so Apple will have a lottery on 21st to decide who can buy iPhone 5 on 21st in Apple store at a specific said time .
I mean 20th lottery and those winners can go buy next day in Apple store.
Dickawesome: LMAO!!!!
