We know from Apple’s June 11th WWDC presentation that iOS 6 will offer features that include: an all-new Maps app with Apple-designed cartography, turn-by-turn navigation and an amazing new Flyover view; new Siri features, including support for more languages, easy access to sports scores, restaurant recommendations and movie listings; Facebook integration for Contacts and Calendar, with the ability to post directly from Notification Center, Siri and Facebook-enabled apps like Photos, Safari and Maps; Shared Photo Streams via iCloud; and Passbook, the simplest way to get all your passes in one place.
What, specifically, would you like to see in iOS 6? Better autocorrection? Finer-grained repeating options in calendar?
Please let us know below.

reorder contacts inside of a contact
When I’m listening to audiobooks sometimes I want to do that rewind 30 seconds thing, but you have to put in your code and navigate to the app, etc. it should be there as an option when I double click the home button.
A generic way to upload files when using Safari. I have not been able to convince some of my relatives to replace their aging PCs because of this. They use government web sites that require the ability to upload scanned copies of receipts, resumes, medical records, etc. There isn’t an App for that.
Multi- user
Group email addressing
I would like to easily lock out certain apps if I let someone used phone….. Not necessarily all apps like it has been suggested in the demo
Would love to be able to ‘Copy’ Calendar item and paste into different months. At the moment you have to create all new entries EVERYTIME! Would also make sense to enable 1st Tuesday of every month custom sequences as in the Desktop version…
Passbook NFC and square buyout
-Arrow keys. I can’t believe that’s not in here up to this point. Maybe it’s a dead horse.
-Apostrophe without having to use the .?123 key. You know how long it took to type the sentence above?
-Location services stink. I have a bunch of astronomy programs, satellite tracking programs, etc. They all need to know where I am. If location services is turned off, or I’m in the middle of nowhere (and I mean in the middle of places like Antarctica or Western China or a whole lot of places in New Mexico — with a WiFi only iPad) I have to go to each app and type in the lat/long. Why can’t there just be fields for lat, long and elev on the location services settings page. Then I can set it in one place and all of these programs won’t even know the difference.
-I also have a small Bluetooth GPS that I can use with my iPad, but only programs that know how to use the information from that make/model GPS can make use of it. Why can’t Apple work with all of these manufacturers so that all of these external GPSs just feed into location services so all of the programs that know how to get the position from there work with any external GPS unit. Just have a selector on the location services settings page to pick where the location information will be coming from: iPad/iPhone (GPS or A-GPS), external GPS, or the input fields. Then they could make the location services arrow icon in the bar at the top of the display green when getting the position from the “normal” source, yellow for external GPS, and red for manually entered positions.
-Just put a stinking GPS chip in the WiFi units!!
-Be able to make folders in the email app when using POP. I’ve done it on Apple desktops/laptops for years. Just not on this iPad.
-Stop using grey on grey for everything. And if there is a button with a black background next to a button with a grey background which one is “on”? Obviously the one with the grey background. Oh wait…
+1 on arrow keys, or at least a better way to move forward or back a character. Tapping between words to edit can be frustrating because:
1) it puts it at end of first word, but you wanted to add to start of second word (e.g. something auto-corrected to “on” when you meant to say “ton”)
Oh, and put in a forward delete for crying out loud! Shift-delete is the obvious way to do this.
2) it puts it at start of second word when you meant to add to end of first word. Yes you can just press delete, but then the first word will usually not benefit from autocorrect, so if you’re changing “was” to “wasn’t”, you can’t just add “nt” + space to auto-insert the apostrophe.
Incidentally: did you turn auto-punctuation and auto-period off? Except for the dash, I can type your entire first sentence without using the “.?123” key (or the “123” key on my iPhone).
I wrote to Steve Jobs once thanking him for allowing a sub-set of EMACS editing commands just about everywhere in OSX. I haven’t written to anyone in the iPad team.
I’d like to see an option for a FULL keyboard in the landscape mode (on iPads) using the same size keys as the keyboard in the portrait mode. There should be plenty of room.
I have ,t set up as a shortcut to translate into ‘t, but it’s so unreliable getting it to work that I’ve stopped trying. I also have ,ll and ,m set up, but same thing. Being able to put spaces in shortcut commands would be nice. I wanted to put ” i ” -> ” I “, but you can’t have spaces.
I don’t see an auto-punctuation or auto-period! Maybe that is just an iPhone thing? Hey! 🙂
They’re not actually called auto-punctuation or auto-period. In Settings > General > Keyboard they’re called Auto-correction and “.” Shortcut respectively.
Haven’t needed shortcuts for apostrophes, if I type “wasnt” it autocorrects to “wasn’t”. Sometimes this isn’t helpful, e.g. “we’re” often autocorrects to “were”.
Why do you need spaces around a lowercase “i”? Autocorrect should change any lone “i” to an uppercase “I”.
Oh, auto-correction. I HAD to turn that off. It was just screwing up too many things and was driving me nuts, but then so is having to manually enter the apostrophe. Maybe I’ll try it again. The “.” shortcut I do use. Maybe they could split the punctuation part and the spelling correction part like they did with the spelling correction and spelling check that everyone yelled about when 5 came out.
Yeah the autocorrect has definitely been annoying at times. If there’s any ambiguity they really should offer multiple choices, with best guess pre-selected.
On iPhone, add a panel for quick-toggles of common system prefs when you double-tap home and swipe two panels left. The volume bar is the only thing there, wasting 4/5 of the screen. And come on, you can change volume in about six different ways already, but only one place for toggles that people often use to turn things off to save power??
Put in a brightness slider (iPad has this already), as well as toggles for wifi, hotspot, Bluetooth, Airplane mode, VPN, etc.
Even better, make this configurable through System Prefs–similar to Notifications panel, allow user set what toggles appear here.
Ability to view one Siri result and get back to the results without searching again!
I’d like to see a customizable lock screen, with other apps accessible without unlock. I.e. the ability to record a voice memo as quickly as you can take a picture. Or access the calculator from the lock screen.
BETTER APP MANAGEMENT!
I’d *love* to be able to have just apps I use every day on 1 or 2 home screens and have the rest in a scrolling list – yes, just like Android. It’s a really nice way of organizing apps.
And, although iOS isn’t *supposed* to need it, it would be super useful sometimes to be able to close all apps with the push of ONE button (not 50). Maybe a somewhat hidden option for this in the Settings app?
Advanced features with visual voicemail. Any way to multi task while listening to voicemails, save vmails forward vmails.
#1 most important missing feature has gotta be a Siri API, right? Think of the possibilities.
NO Facebook integration.
What about being able to change the song (without turning the phone on – like you can currently do with the volume adjustment on the phone) while being in the standby mode (screen black and not lit up) and connected to a Bluetooth speaker system (ie jawbone jambox)?
The ability to change the voice in Siri. Here in the UK, it appears that we’re forced to have a posh male voice. Why? When I finally have a device that has Siri, I want a female voice; I’m not ambivalent about it, I DO NOT want a male voice. C’mon Apple, you’re all about choice, give it to us.
Oh, and to those complaining about having to use the.?123 key to select punctuation, I didn’t have to use it once in what I’ve just written, except for where I’ve referenced the actual key, my iPad automatically inserts them.
To be able to close all open apps at once, not one at the time.
Allow me to set a time of day that I don’t want to hear alerts on the phone. Let me choose which alerts come through during this ‘quiet time’. (For instance, I want calls to come through, but not texts or mail alerts in the middle of the night.)
+1 to PIN required to shut down.
I’ve got a fundamental one: “work”
That’s a fundamental feature and it won’t on the original iPad !
Support the original iPad !! It’s only been 2 short years FCOL
Rip out all that facebook crap I’m sure its bloating up the O/S!
I would like to see a simple location API that would allow locations to be passed between apps so that you don’t have to copy and paste an address or rely on the developer to implement special app specific links. For example, find a store location in the “Apple Store” app, save it using the API, open your preferred navigation app, access the saved location and initiate navigation. Or find your preferred Starbucks location in the “Starbucks” app, save it, then use it to create a geofence in the “Reminders” app. The API could store the 5 most recently saved address and/or lat&long locations for use throughout iOS. This could be a solution for the earlier post about having to manually update all location aware apps manually on devices without GPS.
I’d also like to see a Bluetooth GPS profile (GNSS) for using an external or sharing an iOS device GPS signal. Digital camera’s could use the signal to geotag pictures. iOS devices without GPS could use location services, and those with could have access to more accurate sources. I am not sure if the Serial Port Protocol of GNSS is an issue for Apple though.
When swiping to do a search on the main screen in IOS-5.1, you can search for an app but it needs to give you the location. I have all my apps in groups and also a few pages. It would be nice to be able to locate that app so you can move it to the correct group without searching each group.
More special characters like full Mac keyboard set via press and hold popup menu. Possibilities are limitless. Now most keys offer no popup alternatives so there’s plenty of space unused.
Web URL is often hidden like in YouTube and it’s very awkward to get it for copying to other places. Even Google search results can be seen and clicked on but not copied as shown!
