Silicon Valley backs Obama – big time

“If dollars translate into votes then tech’s top companies are squarely behind Barack Obama, by a better than 5 to 1 margin if you believe the Center for Responsive Politics and its latest stats on the issue,” Jim Goldman reports for CNBC.

“The group put together donation records for some of the top companies in Silicon Valley and the numbers are striking. Overall, Obama outraised John McCain $1,434,719 to $267,041. Google was Obama’s single biggest corporate donor, racking up $485,961 in donations, compared to only $20,600 for John McCain,” Goldman reports.

“As for McCain’s biggest corporate donor? That’d be Cisco Systems, where CEO John Chambers is a vocal supporter of McCain as a co-chairman of his campaign. Employees there forked over $80,676 to McCain. But those donations still didn’t measure up to the $149,078 Cisco employees also sent Obama’s way,” Goldman reports.

“Other notables? Apple Inc. workers donated $98,023 for Obama and $16,950 for McCain; Hewlett-Packard employees raised $148,057 for Obama, and $15,750 for McCain,” Goldman reports.

“Important to note: The Center for Responsive Politics says some contributors didn’t identify their employer so all of this might not represent every donation. Also important: McCain’s fundraising was limited because he accepted public-financing while Obama did not, so that might skew the numbers in Obama’s favor as well,” Goldman reports.

  1. Well some of you guys have just voted to send a black guy called BA into the oval office. And some of you didn’t.

I guess some of you are “crazy fools”

  2. Bollocks, I knew being slightly dyslexic would make me look silly one day. The A is at the end of Obama, not at the beginning.

    Oh well.

    Arf.

Congrats to the democrats. Commiseration to the republicans.

    Enjoy your new pres…

    I mean BMH!

  3. It’s over. It’s really over. In 70 days or so. I guess a lot can happen between now and then, but congrats America, you made the right decision tonight. We’re all pulling for you. And excited for you.

I’m sure we will see a lot of great things to come. Tonight was just the beginning! What an amazing night!

  4. This is a sad day for the American way of life. Obama and the Democratic Congress will destroy this country. I’m amazed at the number of people that think that they’ll be taken care of by government.

Maybe they don’t think they’ll be taken care of by the government.

Maybe they just feel that it’s time for America to rejoin a global community as a partner as opposed to a quasi-imperial power. Maybe they feel that the rolling back of regulation has gone too far and no longer serves the common good. And maybe the people who pay the bills in the US – check the states who are net contributors to the Federal budget – decided it was about time they got something for their money.

We will go into a Depression.

Well, you’re a little ray of sunshine!

Obama is naive and arrogant and the white liberals have vindicated their guilt by having foisted an extremely unqualified black man of questionable character into the presidency.

Yep, because having Sarah Palin one cheeseburger away from the presidency was a far better idea than having someone who knows how the US Constitution works.

Maybe that’s the main cause of the switch: maybe the population decided that they’d had enough of the Constitution being treated as “a damn piece of paper” and they’d like the country to be run by someone who at least gives the impression of caring about that document.

Of course, that might be naive optimism: but that’s arguably better than getting set for another four years of being cynically manipulated by one’s fears and doubts.

By the way, despite the fact that Obama refers to himself as black, it should be remembered that he is actually the product of an inter-racial relationship which should be a re-assurance unless you’re from that “one drop” mindset that would prefer him to be delivering your groceries so long as he didn’t come in the house.

  5. Socialism…

As an American you have been living under socialism for 221 years or so…

Not communism, Marxism, Leninism, Maoism, but SOCIALISM. Look up the definition.

Do you build your own roads, provide for your own police and fire protection, build your parks and playgrounds for your children to play on or to participate in sports?

Oh, how about your hospitals and public schools and the local library?

No – you share in the expense with your fellow citizens unless you can figure a way to get out of it because you are a cheap a$$. BUT if you do share in those responsibilities to your community – then you are a socialist.

And if you listened to Obama’s speeches at all – he never proposed a welfare state or rob from the lazy rich and give to the lazy poor. He has always asked everyone – red or blue state – to serve the community.

I know that is a stretch because you would rather play games or avoid work around the house, etc… but that is what he has asked.

For all of you history buffs: During the Clinton Administration, how much of a deficit was left when he moved house? What was the treasury’s surplus? Who proposed and with the help of his now defeated crony pushed through the law that deregulated the financial and stock markets that now has you owing over 3 Trillion in debt – with no way to pay it back except with more debt? (hint – it wasn’t a Democrat) (FYI: no money is issued from the Federal Reserve without interest added. So, the money you borrow the pay for the money you borrow is paid with money you borrowed. Get it?

    And that isn’t Obama’s fault.

So, you can whinge and beotch and complain OR you can roll your sleeves up with the rest of you fellow “prisoners” (as was so aptly said by McCain) and help solve this problem and press your elected officials to change how we are issued money in this country.

    Or not.

But remember: Denial is not a river in Egypt and sooner or later we must needs solve the financial burdens that we have all inherited as Bush rides off to Paraguay and Cheney heads to the UAE. (Remember you read it here).

I am no conspiracy theorist. I just pay attention.

Ih and if you like fascism – just help the neocons keep all of the reags that have been passed since Bush came into power.

    Cheers

  6. @Rolleyes

And get ready for a whole new even higher level “ignorance, divisiveness and incompetence” form the community organizer. Don’t forget now you have socialism, marxism, facism, stomping on free speech etc. Be prepared to hand over your paycheck to Der Commissar Obama and his congress with a 9% approval rating. 9%…. Bush has 20%-30%, 9% laughable. You have no idea how bad these leftists are going to plunder you wallet. They are going to tax you to death, then re-distribute your wealth. This is after they get done sending your energy costs through the roof. The leftists don’t just tax you they tax everything around you, strangling business and individual liberties. In 4 years America will be begging to get out, but may not be able too because the game has been changed… ‘for your better good’ …… It’s the Peanut Farmer all over again, except this time he has the backing of some truly rotten people, who would like to destroy our values and CONSTITUTION. You really know nothing about this guy. Obama is a smooth talking one night stand. In a little while people will wake up and ask how did this happen??? The collusion of the Media to push this clown over the top is astounding. Congratulations, you were warned and didn’t listen. Assume position.

  7. except this time he has the backing of some truly rotten people, who would like to destroy our values and CONSTITUTION

Sorry, would that be the same constitution that the Republican Party has collectively spat on for the last eight years or so.

I’d argue that the USA has collectively decided that the era of “presidency by signing statement” is over along with the era of the current Vice-President defining his very own branch of government. So actually the people are trying to return the country to the rule of law – no need to thank Democrat voters for this service, you’re welcome.
