Apple MacBook is Amazon’s No. 1 top-selling computer this Christmas Eve

“Despite fierce competition from machines with more than twice the memory and price points hundreds of dollars lower, Apple’s white 120 GB MacBook has captured the top spot on Amazon’s list of bestselling computers this Christmas eve,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt reports for Fortune.

Full article here.

MacDailyNews Take: Elmer-Dewitt likely knows, but fails to mention, that Apple’s MacBook is like getting two (or more) computers for one, as it’s the only portable computer on the list (besides Apple’s MacBook Pro) that can run all the world’s OSes (however inferior to Mac OS X they may be) and all the world’s software. No PC laptop maker on earth can match that value.

Apple’s MacBook is easily the best portable in its price class, people are finally realizing it, and that’s why it’s #1 on Amazon.

  1. Poor, little, sensative, demotrolls. Chrissyone, Chris, etc. The Republicans are making the world a safer place. You libs would put your tails between your legs and surrender to the bad actors of the world if you had your way. Thank goodness you have no real say in what happens. That teacher is one of the major problems in the US school systems today. Fantasy land garbage.

  2. > Okay, time for all the usual suspects to start making comments. Those whose life revolves around MDN…

Oh, that’s really clever. I believe you just insulted yourself, moron. Or at least tried to… and as the first comment, no less.

There’s one key difference between a Mac and almost every other PC being sold. The others are forced to be sold with Windows Vista. 2008 will be the year that every PC maker (other than Apple) regrets their dependence on Microsoft. Happy new year!

  3. Guys, really,…… just really. 🙁

    @Predrag
“I cannot understand what was the reason for so much vitriol agains Yo. The guy belongs to the “never used Mac” camp and had been visiting our forum for some time recently. Having seen all the smugness and arrogance, he still decided to give it a fair shake. In all fairness, I have seen plenty of 40-year olds struggling to read type on MacBook / MBP. While my eyesight is fine, many people hate wearing glasses when they see well enough (and not exactly perfectly). For them, the only solution is (what I hate the most) reducing the screen resolution (on LCDs, we all know what it means – blurry image).

For the stay at home, get an iMac. 1200$ gets you a HUGE 20 in screen. Period. And anyone who comes to a Mac site and says all the cute “I love Mac” but its not enough like a PC, are really just trolls (in most cases). Like they say above, get a small Mac for portability and a big cheap dell screen for at home read ability. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

    for Yo,
Hey, to each his own. But the “I tried Apple but the smallest screen is not big enough, and they cost too much comments just yell troll. At $150 per support hour, just a few hours means that you lose when you buy a pc. And I use a G5 iMac and the 20 inch screen is huge. But boy would I love a 24 inch. You want big, now there is big, easy to use, fully pc problem compatible if you desire, and free from spam, bots, viruses, etc if you wish. Just right for grandma. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

But do what you want. And enjoy your choice

  4. Having read Yo’s second comments, i think we should be fair on his decision. Grammy wanted a laptop to carry around from one room to another, so having an iMac or even a Mac Mini would not have been viable (although plugging a 19″ LCD would have been great for her eyesight).
I’m inclined to agree that he should have taken her to the Apple Store to see if the MacBook really could have been ok for her. Are the specs for the Toshiba that much more accomodating for her?
One last thing: I personally would have tried to argue the point that a iMac would have been better for her, since she wont have to bend her aging back to peer at the monitor. I’m only 31, and yet I find it discomforting to work on laptops over a long period of time.
    Have a merry xmas everyone!

  5. Sure…. That’s what you demowhimps would love everyone to believe. Actually we are kicking ass in Iraq. Even Harry “I surrender” Reid now admits it. Who give a flying F*CK what the rest of the evil world thinks you scarred little sissy. They better fear us. If they think we’re afraid of them they’ll be in your living room raping and pillaging your family. Get a grip idiot.

  6. Would you mind explaining what gave us the right to invade a sovereign nation without any provocation what so ever? Whether we’re “kicking ass in Iraq,” (as idiotic a statement as that may be) is absolutely irrelevant. We had no right to tear their country to shreds and then try to put the pieces back together. We’re responsible for more Iraqi deaths than Saddam ever was. Oh and where are those weapons of mass destruction we were supposed to be so afraid of?

    Are you serious?
” Who give a flying F*CK what the rest of the evil world thinks you scarred little sissy. They better fear us. If they think we’re afraid of them they’ll be in your living room raping and pillaging your family. Get a grip idiot.”

How could any sane person make a statement like that?

You’re an embarrassment to every American.

To the rest of the world:
Please know that statements like that represent a small extremist minority (which unfortunately includes our President).

  7. @Mark
Your comments are a splendid example of the lack of acceptance of alternative views (a.k.a. intolerance) that Republicans seem so eager to exhibit. And are you completely ignorant and dismissive of your fellow Americans who happen to be Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, or of other faiths?

And what’s up with the negativity, especially on Christmas eve? Your fellow Christians must be cringing. Do you really think that your comments are something to be proud of? I think not. I think they make you look like an ignorant, intolerant, and complete asshole.

And, lastly, what on earth do your comments have to do with MacBooks, which are the subject of this thread? Perhaps you accidentally happened upon the wrong forum. Apparently you were seeking the QuackDailyNews rather than MacDailyNews.

  8. @ Mark and all the Republicans
and to the rest of us, too:

May we all put aside our prejudices for a moment, reflecting on how fortunate we are, and wish goodwill and peace to all.

    Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

    — Hm…

  9. The sad thing about American politics in general is that being a Democrat or Republican is simply a statement of which half of your brain is missing – left or right.

Both parties simply play us for the gullible fools we are. And they play us against each other by inflaming our emotions to the point of ignoring any logic and reason.

We, as a nation, deserve what we get if we continue to follow in the footsteps of the party line zombies who have preceded us. Does anyone really believe that those who run for office do so for altruistic reasons, and not for their own self interests? If that were true they would appoint truly qualified people to government positions, instead of their own highest bidding cronies.

I trust none of them, even if I vote for them.

  10. I posted the original joke email and it was sadly very accurate. Look at how sensitive the democrate-liberal posters are. Zero sense of humor or courage. Thanks for supporting me other rational minded posters. I posted nothing about Iraq but I guess you peace loving liberals would rather have a mass murderer killing hundreds of thousands of his citizens yearly and working to destabilize the middle east and world. By the way there were WMDs found, not the nukes they thought they’d find but others were found. Sadam had plenty of time to hide them too, in other countries or still his own if they did exist. You libs say with such certainty that there were no WMDs. I don’t know how you can be so sure. You probably think Iran and Syria are run by choir boys too. The US can not base it’s defense policy on which terrorist loving, no defense of their own, liberal European country whines the most. As others have said. Thank the good lord you libs aren’t in control.

  11. Mark,

So anyone who is against the actions going on in Iraq is a “peace loving liberal’? I don’t understand why everyone who feels this way is automatically a Democrat and a liberal.

And I really don’t understand why you would connote that the act of loving peace should be a thing of shame. That is one of the most warped and sick beliefs I have ever heard.

Some people like to accuse religion of being the reason for all of the worlds pain and strife. Maybe so, in part. But patriotism and nationalism are right next to it.

I personally detest war, but I know that at times it is a necessary evil. Our involvement in World War II is a perfect example of being justified and the right thing to do.

Our actions in Iraq are not. Apparently, you believe ‘a good offense is a good defense’. But where does that reasoning end? Is it done after Iraq and Afghanistan? Or is Iran next? Then Syria? And don’t forget Albania; they are mostly Muslim. And since that’s in Europe, we may as well eliminate those pesky liberals up there too.

There will always be so called leaders who will grasp at any means to involve the world in these conflicts. But they can’t do it if they don’t have the whole hearted support of flag waving chest thumpers like you. You who would throw away our Constitutional rights in the name of security. You who would give carte blanche power to a deceitful fool like our glorious leader.

Sadly Mark, I fear you much more than I do any terrorist.

  12. @ Chris
“To my Republican acquaintances,———-stop pushing your religious beliefs on the rest of the country: prayer in schools, gay marriage, etc. You’re worse than the religious police in Iran, for Christ’s sake!”

Are you kidding. You do know that they stone gays to death in Iran don’t you?

  13. Interesting how all of the San Fran queers on this site call every US Republican “worse than the religious police in Iran”. Worse than the religious police in Iran….???? Give me an effing break. Do you have any clue how ridiculous that sounds??? What the hell is wrong with you freaks. Iran vs. US Republicans. You are the very definition of what is wrong with the US. As others have said, thank god you’re not in charge.

  14. Wendy,

Apparently you and some others here consider yourselves the chosen ones who stand at the right hand of God. When you invoke His name (which is capitalized) you should pay attention to the statements you link it to. Just think, would you say these things in the presence of God? I would hope not.

  15. @ LorD1776

The anti-“liberals” keep proving your point. Maybe one can just suggest they read the Constitution again, or maybe read it for the first time. Even Rev. Huckabee said he wants to be president *for all Americans,* not just the “Christian Republicans.”

There’s a line in an old Micheal Douglas movie that seems so apropos these days: How can these people claim to love America and yet hate Americans.

Let’s try one last time. Please, there are only a few hours of Christmas left. Try for a little tolerance and good will. And let this go back to being an Apple news site.

  16. @Mark, jimmymac, Tiny Tim, Marty, Dippity Bob, Rudolph, @Rudolphs red nose is from drinking, Macintosh, Wendy, and Paul:

Which of you actually own Macs? And do you care to prove it by providing a serial number? Or do you just like to hang out on Mac sites to spew your venom?

Enough venom for me. I would like to say Happy Holidays to everyone regardless of your faith, color of your skin, sexual orientation, political leanings, or any other difference and may you have a great New Year.
