Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

As we enter the Christmas news slowdown, we can all look forward with anticipation to Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ opening keynote address for Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 9am PST. The news (and rumors) will undoubtedly build later this week as we count down the days to the event. We can hardly wait!

We’ll continue to post as time, disparate Internet connections, and the news permits.

  21. It’s been a sensational year.

    In recent years past, the PC/Mac bickering was always extinguished against my “logic” by the rejoinder “Macs are an insignificant computing citizen.”

    This year, above all, that has become an anachronism, easily repelled.

    As the world of business becomes ever more the age of the individual, Apple will prosper.

  29. My sister and her husband have been struggling for a long time. My sister is now 40, they have 4 kids, one in college, and they live with my parents to make ends meet. Some friends of theirs pooled money and gave them a gift card for $250 to Wal-mart.

    Now when my sister found out that my wife and I weren’t getting each other anything for Christmas because of our on struggles, my sister and brother-in-law gave us the gift card.

    That is the meaning of the season.

    In ancient Babylon, the feast of the Son of Isis (Goddess of Nature) was celebrated on December 25. Raucous partying, eating and drinking, and gift-giving were traditions of this feast.

  35. Let’s not gloss over the key meaning of the season. May good fortune tower over you with fond memories. May no one monitor your input with malice and errors. But rather, let’s drive the option to shift goodwill towards a better startup for the new year.

  52. Merry Christmas to all and thanks, MDN for giving us a place to discuss Apple when we are not tearing into each other over petty things (non-Apple issues).

    I would like to wish a Special Merry Christmas to any soldiers who may be reading, especially the active ones in war zones.

    But I would like to say thanks to one young man in particular who called me one day week before last from Iraq. I have known this man since he was born, watching him grow up with his sisters and my children. His mother is a good friend of mine for over 20 years, and I helped her order him a Macbook, and show her how to have everyone make personal videos at Thanksgiving for him to have and watch.

    He got his Macbook, his first Apple, and called me to help him set up some stuff and explain some things. This was the first time since he was deployed that I had heard from him. What a treat. After 45 minutes of talking, he had to go, and later his mother called and we discussed what he said and how out kids’ lives had all turned out.

    So you can imagine my horror when she woke me the next morning with a call that the Hummer he was driving, third in a caravan, had been blown up. He managed to get out in time, but not before losing the lower part of his right leg. He is recovering in San Antonio now, many of his family down there (and my Daughter) for support.

    So, in a larger message, God bless our service men, and their families. Hopefully this will be the last Christmas that impacts so many this way.

    And to our non-believing friends, Happy Holidays. Enjoy the bonus and the day off, compliments of the Judeo-Christian lifestyle America benefits from.

  54. To all you guys celebrating it tonight (tomorrow), Merry Christmas! Although mine doesn’t come until two weeks from now (7 January, old calendar), I’m with you in spirit.

    And all others, Arabs and Jews, Buddhists and Hindus, and on and on, I’m sure there’s a holiday around this time of year that you’re celebrating, so may all of the rest of you have best of fortune and health in the next twelve months, until we meet again for the same occasion to renew our wishes.

  57. Wow, TowerTone. What a horrible story! I hope your family’s friend gets better. The untold story of the Iraq war are the over 27,000 wounded. The hospital that I used to work at in Philly recently started getting wounded soldiers for rehab (the rehab hospital associated with the main hospital is considered one of the best in the U.S.) because the military hospitals are overwhelmed with these men and women.

    I hope he gets better and wish you and everyone at MDN a great holiday whatever your religious persuasion may be.

  62. Merry Christmas everyone. TowerTone, sorry about the loss of your friend; that’s tragic man. I must say, the Security Update from yesterday was a good gift from Apple for me. Safari had been hanging up a lot on my machine since the last one, and they addressed it on this update. Cheers!

    I went to the 5th avenue store yesterday and it was beautiful. Though the store itself wasn’t as big as I thought. It was just so crowded. Everyone cramming around the iPods, iMacs, Mac Mini’s, and Touch’s/iPhones.

    Was at a family reunion down in your neck of the woods yesterday, Thor. Ended up at Mall St. (you know), and enjoyed a nice day. That new convention center is a doosey!

    Many times I’ll read a line or two of theirs, read your “take” and immediately be ROFL! Your blatant pro-Apple bias and your cynical perspective are shared by me as I read you daily. We are one.
