LG Prada phone is no Apple ‘iPhone killer’

“We’re a month or so from iPhone, and phone nuts talk about the LG Prada as being one of its main competitors. Another one of those “iPhone-Killers” every phone company is pushing. But I just got an LG Prada, and based on my hands on time with that and my session with the iPhone back at Macworld (not the papercraft in the photo), I can say it’s a great phone, but it’s also no contest,” Brian Lam writes for Gizmodo.

Lam writes, “iPhone wins.”

As we wrote back on February 13th, “Goldstar, er… LG should be doing all they can to avoid anyone making comparisons between their hollow device and Apple’s iPhone.” Looks like LG will have to try harder to limit such direct comparisons if they want to fool at least some Left Side of the Bell Curvers with their pretend iPhones.

You’re right too. The initial press was it’d be a total train wreck and who’d pay $499 for a phone anyway? Ofcourse the idiots totally overlooked that you will pay $399 for the iPod part and only $100 for the phone part.

It’ll be a blast reading all of the “well, it’s not too bad, but [ fill in the blank] offers equal functionality at a lessor price” comments from the clueless, dumb ass analysts in the next couple of months.

OS X reinvented the OS, the iPhone will reinvent the cell phone.

  2. How many journalist will want to be broadcasted using an iphone?

How many stock brokers will want to be seen with an iphone?

How many celebreties will want to be seen sporting an iphone?

How many film makers will want to validate their films by featuring the use of an iphone?

How many sitcoms will feature an iphone?

How many sports stars will want to be seen with an iphone?

Answer: Anyone who wants to be seen as someone who IS SOMEONE.

The iphone will be the statement that ipod is except of course the ipod will now be the statement for those who will be saying that my next purchase will be an iphone.

I will be interested in how many phone makers or skin makers will make skins to make your bog standard phone look like an iphone.

  3. And one more thing!

How many mobile phones come with an anti-theft device?

That will be the next thing that they will be trying to imitate next.

    Made for the ipod.
    Made for the iphone.

Visual voice messaging…who does that? who will be able to do that?

Like the venerable C1 says…the next thing they do will be to try to denigrate all the iphone features by claiming that they don’t live upto the hype, hype which they themselves are responsible for in indulging in negative remarks for the sake of a patting form M$ and all it’s dependent minions.

  4. The Prada phone is going to be a fashion phone, and in a market where women pay $500 for a new handbag every season, I’m sure it will sell well. Good for LG! But they are not going to have a prayer of playing in the same league as the iPhone, unless LG has a mature, UNIX-based OS hidden down its pants somewhere, along with a fully realized product environment and online services to give the Prada more value.

The bottom line – Pretty, flashy, 800 dollar phone to put in your 500 dollar bag that matches your 600 dollar shoes. And like the rest of the Prada product matrix, it will be found at discount retailers for a fraction of the price within 6 months, and forgotten within 12.

  5. And the Prada is $750-$800 – for basically my RAZR with a big screen. Wait, I thought the iPhone was too expensive? No one would buy it at $500-$600? AT&T will have to subsidize the heck out of it just to move it off the shelves?

Amazing how Apple continues to pack its products with features and offers them for a reasonable price, while Apple still makes a healthy profit so it can build more great products.

  6. IPhone is a loser!!!. iPhone is a 2.5 generation phone. We’re in 3rd gerneration. Do I want to go back to the old tech for iphone? Hell NO!!!! I’d rather buy LG Prada phone. Anyway! LG Prada phone is out already and iPhone still is copying Prada phone until release it. “Lam writes for Gizmodo: LOL = Lam is a vietnamese guy. Vietnam is 3rd fucking world country. They don’t know anything shit.

  7. the lg prada phone is NOT the “iphone killer” since there not even for the sane market—->there not compiting in the same country<—-for some reason the lg prada phone *****to my knowledge***** is not going to be sold in america:.:rumors say that the 2 companies have made a deal of that nature:.:so i heard

  8. the iphone will do for phone s what the ipod would do for mp3 players
——->mp3 players first hit the market in 1998!!!!!!!!!!!
it wasnt until the ipod that people even knew what podcasting was!!!!!
——->i bet nobody remembers the cormmercials for mp3 players back then….promesing us that we didnt need cds anymore and noone listen
—.theres jus some thing about apple??

  9. lg here i phone thar, ipod/music fanatics will buy the iphone, and they r many of them,so a part of the profit is sure.
Posh people and show up mobile phone users, who r buyin lates model of phones, they just want a stylish pick up hang up phone with camera.Apple made sure that nobody can REsell iphones in other country, because they can just once activated on a network,it has already a solution, but once unlockd , u cant update it, when u update it, the phone will selfdistruct, and u can buy a new one.
Lg does not have any MISSIONIMPOSIBLE features, and another fact that prada’s price will come down, but the apple, reamins apple and it wount be cheaper,
respect to iphone, they manage it to make a gr8 phone/mp3player/and more,so no compareism between these 2 phones, its like meny other things happened in the past that somebody inventing something without eny connetcion, and they will have some similar feauters..

  10. Looks wise, the iphone is hideous compared to the Prada

I am suggesting that digi nerds get the iphone & people with an eye for style & a good paying job go for the Prada.

Also. I think that the Prada phone may be rudimentry, but it’s more for people who are just hunting for stylish & basic, while iphoners want a little bit more use out of there phones… for instance a crapload of apps you probably wont frequently use.

    the end.

  11. I am an avid mac user and with its recent boom in popularity especially with the iphone, i have grown tired of the “oh look another iphone knock-off or copy cat”

It is annoying me to no end.
First off you got the phone because everyone has one – you are copy catting
Secondly the LG Prada came out before the iPhone did.
Thirdly Palm has been making touchscreen phones forEVER.

Its not about copying – its about innovation thats what all technology is based upon, if every gadget had to reinvent the wheel in order to make a product we wouldnt have technology today.
