  1. “These ‘leaks’ all have one thing in common: none of them have yet to show us anything worth paying for.”

And if that’s how you feel, imagine the poor Windows users that have nothing more than Vista to look forward to in the future…

  2. It’s ok, not a big leap from 10.4. I mean, who’s gonna use Mail’s notes? Some of those features are basic improvements that could have been added in a 10.4.x update. Let’s be honest people, spring loaded folders in the dock and a different view for the Trash folder – wow. Not that I would switch to Windows anytime soon, I’m hoping the secret features will know my socks off.

  3. ho-hum.
why do i think the new secret features will be new icons or backgrounds or something else totally “who cares?”

10.4 > 10.5 so far not impressed. i can´t ever imagine using the time machine or lost of the other doo-dads.

  4. “I mean, who’s gonna use Mail’s notes?”

I am. I can’t wait for it. It’s going to make my work flow much more productive. Newsflash: The world doesn’t revolve around you! Just because you don’t see the value of a feature, doesn’t mean others won’t.

The more I think about how I’d use Spaces, the more excited I get about it. For those who don’t think the new features are worth it, don’t buy it. The fact of the matter is, the OS is so close to perfect already, it’s getting harder to find new features to add. That really sucks, huh?

  5. $149 upgrade + $299 for addl memory to run the doo dads + $199 hard drive to hold ’em.

    What a bargain!

SSS (Steve’s Secret Stuff) had better be good.

It’s not a matter of whether or not I will upgrade, the point is whether we are going to allow Apple to rip us off (again) just because they’ve decided it’s time.

  6. “I mean, who’s gonna use Mail’s notes?”

I will. At present I have several mail ‘drafts’ at any given moment that I use as notes.

It is a simple repository for ideas, drafts of blog posts, etc

  7. Dear Pete Peterson,

    Add these to your list

$1.29 for a box of Kleenex
    $2.99 for a tube of Preparation H
$3.49 for a bottle of Midol

Here’s a simple solution for you:
If the cost is too much for you to bear, skip the upgrade.

There are lots of people who skip version numbers. Big Deal.

Some of the announced features look compelling, others clean up or simplify some rough edges. Every version of OS X has made my Mac run FASTER than the previous version. Not a bad trick and certainly worth a few extra shekels.

  8. “Mac fans online are fond of pointing out that in the time it took Microsoft to release *one* new Windows version, Apple has released *five* new Mac OS X versions. (Of course, they’re less vocal about the fact that they’ve dished out $650 to keep up with these updates.)” —David Pogue

  9. Mr. Reeee

I don’t want to skip the upgrade. I want the upgrade to be worth the cost. Since the Mac faithful are so fast to buy anything Steve is willing to dole out, we get less and less.

My message is for us consumers to demand all that Apple is capable of delivering, holding nothing back, and not trying to fool us with gimmicks and eye candy.

Make iLife as good as it can be (it’s not, now) accelerate iWork, punch up performance with the latest, secret Intel stuff, and quit trying to convince us that widgets, gadgets, and goofy tweaks of the little stuff is worth the cost of a point upgrade.

  10. pete peterson stfu and buy some decent hardware already
what are you workin on a 7 yr old mac?

mw: appeared. as in it appeared that you said you needed to buy some hardware to make leopard work…wtf do you think PC owners will have to do when off in the distance vista comes out ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”raspberry” style=”border:0;” />

  11. Very cool that setting up Time Machine is part of the OS installation process. Even is someone does not have a spare external (or internal) drive handy, it may encourage the user to go get one to take advantage of this feature later (and play it safe). And I like the move to “non-brushed-mental” windows. I hope ALL the apps (including Safari 3) get the “soothing smooth gray” treatment.
