  1. At these price points, I can’t understand the target market. Why would I want an iPad Pro with keyboard if it costs more than an MBA, which offers much more functionality?

    1. Because there’s still a large untapped market of people you can sell the false promise of the iPad as a laptop replacement to when you add shiny new accessories and make the iPad thinner and faster (the two things no one was complaining about).

This Magic Keyboard should have been released in 2020, which was already a decade after the first iPad was released! I’ve been using mine for a 11″ iPad Pro since 2021, and I sure could have used function keys and a larger trackpad, the latter I almost never use because it’s obscenely small and practically useless, like Tim Cook’s strategic vision for Apple.

    2. Here are some of the reason I prefer the iPad / magic keyboard combo over a MacBook Air:

      1) I can download tv shows / movies via streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, etc) for offline use while traveling or at work. You can’t do this on a MacBook and I’m not looking to purchase every show or movie I watch via iTunes or download them illegally.

      2) The Kindle app for iPadOS / iOS is much better than the Mac version. Mac version is lacking features such as Immersion Reading, which improves the reading experience greatly for me.

      3) Improved screen brightness over MacBook Air. The 2024 iPad Pro’s has 1000 nits of brightness for SDR content, while the iPad Pro’s before it have 600 nits of brightness for SDR content. The M2/M3 MacBook Air screen brightness tops at 500 nits.

      4) Promotion display, which isn’t present in the MacBook Air. It’s annoying to use a 60hz displays after getting used to 120hz of the iPad Pro / 13 Pro Max.

      5) It’s really nice to have the option be able to take the tablet off of it’s keyboard and just use it as a tablet while on the couch and closer to my face for reading or viewing, rather than needing a laptop on my lap further away from my face.

      6) I actually prefer the smaller form factor of the 11 inch tablet, over the bigger 13 inch MacBook Air. Makes it easier when traveling via airways or when I’m moving around constantly at work.

      7) Having the camera on the back of the iPad is nice when in meetings and wanting to take a picture of a presentation slide that is currently being shown. If I had a MacBook I would need to stop typing and whip out my phone, bringing attention to myself. With the iPad I can simply be typing notes, then switch to the camera app to take a photo without anyone noticing or making people feel awkward.

      8) It’s nice to have a dedicated cellular option on the iPad Pro while traveling. My cell phone plan doesn’t have unlimited tethering, and even if it did tethering drains the battery pretty quick. This isn’t a built in option on the MacBook Air.

      9) Sometimes your kids want to play a game on the iPad while you’re driving them on a long road trip. This is pretty impractical to try to do with a MacBook Air for a small child and I would worry about them dropping / damaging the MacBook Air much more than my iPad Pro that’s in a protective case while driving.

  2. one more time and after years of Apple Magic Keyboards for iPads we STILL do not have backlit side ports – what is the bloody stupid point of backlit keyboard if you need charging in bed and you do not want to wake up the other person, the port is a hassle to find in the dark to connect charging cable on the keyboard side port as the iPad port is already used for earplugs!

I cannot believe Apple charges $350 for a keyboard that is not even complete or completely practical – I just can’t believe I’m the only customer who finds this omission issue, it is quite frustrating that Apple’s 1000s of staff don’t even think of it

  3. I have the old Magic Keyboard, and I gotta say, it’s the worst keyboard I’ve ever used, and consider it to be the worst Apple product I’ve ever owned, and I’ve owned the round mouse.
