Liquidmetal (LQMT) is the secret sauce for making this ultra thin phone possible. Apple bought in with a perpetual license in 2010, hired a Chinese entrepreneur and professor of Metallurgy in 2016, tested their premium material through 2020, and since then developed a Gen 3 Liquidmorpheum machine to make high quality parts quickly and cheaply, certified manufacturing partners, had Liquidmetal build their own plant (now complete), and iterated and finalized the design of this Ultra Foldable. They have to have MagSafe, even the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold has it. I’m sure they could have also included Face ID. This stinks of a margin defense play rather than a technological limitation. Teardowns will probably show an empty space for a future module. For $2500 you shouldn’t have to unlock your iPhone Fold like a $400 iPad Mini. We’ll see it in 2027 as a “new” feature.
