“A few weeks ago we launched our tongue-in-cheek contest to dual boot Windows Vista on an Intel Mac… but little did we know Apple was planning on dropping the Boot Camp news a few days later,” OSx86 Project reports. “Nevertheless, Vista has proved a challenge even with Boot Camp, so we were fairly excited when AirmanPika let us know about his success with installing and booting Vista. Although several people have gotten the installer to work, AirmanPika is one of the first to get Vista up and running – and the first we’re aware of to give some screenshots. The installation isn’t without its glitches yet – and you have to delete your OS X partition – but it’s a start.”

Oh no! OSX has finally caught the Vista virus. It is the first bona fide virus for OSX and its payload is really bad, it results in the total destruction of your OSX partition making every Apple application totally unusable. The only way to remove it is to low level format the drive and perform a clean install, then keep the computer away from open windows cos bugs fly in through open windows.
Cheers
BTW, all you guys keep forgetting Apple has a much larger slice of the market than most people think.
Statistics have determined that the average Apple user keeps his hardware twice as long as the average PC user. That means he installed base is at least twice as large as most people think, around 10% installed base.
Also IDG ranked Apple the 4th largest hardware manuafacturer by sales in the US for 2005. That makes them bigger than all except three manufacturers. If you start looking at Apple as hardware they are not small and insignificant, they are one of the biggest. It is only when you rank them against ALL the other manufacturers that they look small, but then so do any of them if you do the same thing.
As for Vista being more secure – don’t believe it. It has been re-written to remove .NET from its internals. It still has support for .NET applications but does not use it itself – and this has been proved by independent analysis. That means all the good security gubbins of .NET is gone replaced instead by last minute mickey mouse code by our big brother MickeySoft.
Sheesh !
Gimme OSX and virtualised Win/Lin/Solaris and I can assist any client while still using what I prefer.
Cheers
MDN:- for our sanity please block out the poster MacDude, or as he’s now calling himself, Morty. He fills these pages with such crap.
Leopard will be shown to developers in August. When that will happen everybody will understand why Microsoft OS are dead. Vista? LOL
Leopard does things that makes jaw drop to the other side of the planet.
Game Over
vista is basically the same architechture as xp, its going to be just as fallible as xp to viruses, its a pig with lipstick.
its got legacy code from 20 years still coming out it ass.
vista is going to be the dog that xp is right now, not only is it ugly, its slow to the finish line.
apple just have to keep at doing what theyre doing, just like firefox is doing to internet explorer, slowly take market share away from the slow, stagnant, short-sighted microsoft.
vista is no threat.
The only reason they held off releasing vista is because they wanted to see what Leopard had in store, microsoft simply cant develop anything original or innovative.
and by holding back their release date, theyre letting more and more people see the benefits of mac os X, and once people go mac, they dont go back.
Leopard does things that makes jaw drop to the other side of the planet.

Cool.. you’ve seen it?… We keep hearing gimmicky stuff like ‘multiple docks’ and ‘we finally fixed the Finder’
Having said that.. as usual.. what Apple comes out with will be TOTALLY different than what we ‘think’ they’ll do…
… once again reminding all of us on here why WE don’t work at Apple.
1. Apple sells more Macs to Windows users who want to run Windows only.
2. Apple sells Leopard to OS X users who want to run OS X only.
3. Apple sells Macs and Leopard to persons who want the option of running both Windows and OS X.
Apple is offering Mac users options. The number one rule in business is giving the customer what they want. You know, there are people content using Jaguar and Panther. I would not be alarmed by Windows on a Mac, some folks actually prefer a second rate operating system. Do you really think that Apple will abandon its historical consumer base for a red headed stepchild named Bill? If you really believe that OS X is the preeminent OS, why worry? Hey, Darwine, you got an opinion?
as I said

what do you all think about that? Macbooks maybe?
I’m certain it’s a G5 Powerbook.

Store closed, new products coming…
iPod?
MacBook?
My bets are on the iBook-replacement…
Cheers
Unless there is some unknown reason that I need to use windows for (not possible) then i’m sticking with Mac OS.
I cannot see ANY possible reason why I would want to install any version of windows on my mac.
Sorry M$ et al – i’m sticking with Apple and the Mac OS until i’m put in a box.
I can’t stand M$, never liked their OS or any of their products – even the x box was rushed out and not tested just to get the product to market.
No sale here i’m afraid.
Now i’m gonna order my Mac Intel Powerbook…
Morty: By the end of this year, I predict Apple will have gained at least another 2 percentage points in market share assuming it’s now about 4.5% in the US (although it’s quoted as anywhere between 2.3% and 5%). Regardless, I think Apple Mac sales will reach at least 6.5% by end of December 2006.
Why?
1. Because Mac OS X is better.
2. Because iLife is better.
3. Because Macs look-and-feel better.
4. Because Intel Mac pricing is in the ballpark with same-size Core Duo based PCs.
5. Because previous PC peripherals can continue to be used with a Mac mini and soon-to-come Mac Pro.
6. Because Windows OS and application investments can continue to be used on a Mac.
7. Because Vista is not available to boost PC sales, and since a most of the business cycle PC replacements has already occurred and is coming to an end. The Y2K scare in 1999 shifted many companies into a 2002-2003 buy and a 2005-2006 buy.
8. Because Mac owners can get in-person customer service at an Apple Store.
9. Because the Leopard preview in August will show that Mac OS X is even further ahead of Vista than currently believed.
10. Because the soon-to-come Front Row improvements and new iPods will show that the Mac is the best home/on-the-go entertainment solution.
Stop the insanity!
First we try to shoehorn a piece of crap OS onto a mac, then Apple blesses the whole venture, now we are putting Beta crap on our macs.
Is it not enough to slather on the crap that we can’t wait to put more crap that isn’t even fully birthed yet?
Oh the hypocrisy. I want to remain M$ free. I want to be productive. I want to see GUI goodness. I want to walk toward the light. Keep me far away from this mess.
