Why do some people insist on bringing their politics into every conversation? It is flat out disgusting how tasteless these attacks on the President are. It must be because liberals hate to see this country do yet one more great thing that other countries were too afraid to do. I think I’ve finally figured out liberals have no vested interest in seeing our country remaining a leader in the free world. If it were up to them, we would all be living in a socialist utopia with a dictator who took away all our firearms, told us we could only speak on liberal controlled media aka CNN, NYT, etc, force us all to use Linux, because of course any AMERICAN product such as an Apple computer simply isn’t good enough for them… And of course when there are other countries under oppression, we are supposed to support the dictator of the country, not the poor oppressed people. Margret has it absolutely right: Bush is instantly ridiculed whenever his name is mentioned in any internet forum. However, Ronald Reagan was also ridiculed in much the same way (obviously not on the internet as it didn’t exist in it’s present form at that time). Reagan was painted by the media and the liberal intelligensia to be a simpleton who’s war-mongering ways were pushing us toward WW III. The Europeans decried the Pershing missiles and domestically Reagan was ostrasized by the media for confronting the communists rather than appeasing them.
However, history has proven the liberals wrong and even Reagan’s biggest detractors (ala John Kerry who’s only consistancy is that he has always been on the wrong side of history) now concede that he was right.
I’m a Republican, but I don’t always tow the party line and I frequently disagree with Bush on certain issues, but on the whole, I think Margret is right, history will be kind to Bush just as it has been (and will be) to Reagan. Liberalism is essentially vailed socialism which is a system that has proven bereft of any benefit.

Clinton is cool. So he slipped up — personally — like millions do because we are hard-wired to respond to nature’s calling. Anyway, he came down under and gave a speech that was moving in its vision and broad scope. Sure, his speechwriters played a big part in that, but that applies to most presidents; the content and performance doesn’t.
I knew we the world was heading for trouble when the US took a swing to the right, aided and abetted by the evangelical movement and supported by the pro-Israel lobby; and I knew the trouble would come from the Middle East. I don’t begrudge the US or Israel for their national security aspirations, just as I don’t begrudge the Palestinians for wanting a home. But every action has its consequences. Moving towards the center moves your opponents towards the center; moving towards peace does the same. You take a hard line when you’ve exhausted the gentler options — and the whole world would be supportive then.
The Clintons are cool. Bush needs to show he has his “own” agenda, not somebody else’s. One thing is obvious though, the neo-christians are nudging the country back towards the dark ages.

Having said that, I do believe that Clinton’s legacy will be viewed less positively in the future than it is now, while Bush’s will be viewed more favorably than it is today. Clinton had a questionable young adulthood and was impeached. Bush had a questionable young adulthood and invaded a nation.
In the future those respective facts will tarnish Clinton’s record more than anything questionable that Bush has done (so far).
