Apple G5 opening eyes in enterprise market

“Apple is emerging as a serious player in a wide range of new markets, including those for content delivery and telecommunications companies. Macworld UK reports on strong pro-Apple responses from the life sciences, federal and government markets as the company prepares to deliver the most enterprise-friendly Worldwide Developer’s Conference ever in June,” Jonny Evans reports for Macworld UK.

“Apple’s vice president of worldwide developer relations Ron Okamoto told Macworld UK last week: ‘Since news about Virginia Tech’s G5-based supercomputer cluster broke, we have been hammered with requests from all different directions

  1. It is true, next Monday we are holding a phone meeting with Apple representative in order to organize a conference from Apple at the lab.
All major experiments have expressed interest in having the platform officially supported and more and more Macs are seen in the hands of key developers.

It is just matter of when your institution reaches the *critical mass*.

  2. Gaining access to government and, later, corporate customers through servers is the first step to getting back onto their desktops. Once IT staff are comfortable with Macs in the server room, they will be comfortable ordering them as client machines. If Mac servers take off, it’s HUGE.

  3. I’ll be getting a Dual 1.8 G5 to replace 2 Rack Servers that have been my Windows Tech Computers for the last 2 1/2 years. We’ll be getting Virtual PC to install all the various flavours of Windows for support reasons, and I’ll have 2 screens on which to do this! That also means we’ll be reclaiming those 2 servers for the NOC and gaining additional storage space for our domains. I’m really looking forward to it! (And who knows…once I get my G5…it could start a Cascade Effect. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  4. The G5 is like weed reinvented. God I want to smoke some of that Dank Apple shit….

Will probably break my laptop tradition in favor of a new PowerMac whenever those come out.

  5. As soon as apple releases single 1.6 Ghz iMacs and laptops, they are gonna sell faster than iPods on a Christmas half off sale! We WILL see marketshare increase like no ones business.

  6. It’s neet to see that apple is becoming more popular with the server and unix people. Many bought ibooks and powerbooks in the past few years to get to know OS X. Now they like the hardware too,, and are moving up to power macs and x-serves.
