Apple has begun a new developer testing cycle just two days after shipping iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 to the public. On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the company seeded the first developer betas of the 27.2 point releases across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Vision Pro.
The timing is unusual. After a major fall launch, Apple typically starts with a .1 update. This year, iOS 27.1 is being held for the iPhone Duo, Apple’s foldable iPhone scheduled to launch on October 23 with dual-screen layouts, a vertical dock, a vertical Dynamic Island, and Camera features built for two displays. By jumping to 27.2 for current devices, Apple can test software meant for all users without exposing Duo-specific work early.
Registered developers can install the betas through Settings > General > Software Update after enabling the developer beta track. The iOS 27.2 beta 1 download is large — testers have reported sizes around 22GB. Reported build numbers include iOS and iPadOS 27.2 beta 1 as 24B5084k and tvOS 27.2 beta 1 as 24K5088l. Apple also issued companion 27.2 betas for macOS Golden Gate and HomePod software.
What’s in the first 27.2 betas
Early testers say iOS 27.2 beta 1 already includes two features Apple had flagged for later this year.
• Siri AI languages: Siri AI launched this week as an English-only beta. In 27.2 beta 1, that more conversational assistant also works when the device language is set to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, or Spanish. Apple had said those languages would arrive in October; they are now in developer testing. Siri AI still requires an Apple Intelligence–capable device.
• Redesigned Health app: The overhaul uses Apple Intelligence to turn Watch and iPhone data into guidance. Testers get a new Insights tab with timely summaries and personalized suggestions, plus a Longevity tab that scores long-term metrics such as heart health, sleep, movement, and metabolic health. Health Age, which compares certain metrics with a user’s chronological age, is part of that experience. Some of this still requires a paired Apple Watch, and Apple’s notes indicate the full Health redesign may not ship in the first public 27.2 build.
Other delayed Apple Intelligence items — smarter suggestions in Messages and AI help for weak or compromised passwords — could also return in this cycle, though that is not confirmed in the first seed.
watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS
watchOS 27.2, tvOS 27.2, and visionOS 27.2 developer beta 1 are available as well. On Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, two late-2026 Apple Intelligence features are candidates for this track: Live Rewind, which transcribes the last 15 seconds after a double-press of the Digital Crown, and Siri Recap, which turns the day’s conversations into brief notes. Specific changes in the first tvOS and visionOS 27.2 builds have not been detailed; a new Apple TV 4K with stronger Siri AI hardware is still expected later this year.
MacDailyNews Take: Apple still needs to ship iOS 27.1 before the iPhone Duo goes on sale so the foldable can launch with its dedicated software. If 27.2 carries the extra Siri languages and Health work, that update is also likely in October. Public betas typically follow developer seeds after an initial round of testing.
As always with first-point-release betas, these builds are meant for secondary devices. Expect bugs, incomplete features, and a large download. Developers should keep watching release notes as Apple fills in Duo support, language rollouts, and the rest of the Health redesign over the coming weeks.
