“Apple tells that FCC that there’s more to the iPhone than the public knows and wants them to commit to a 45 day short term confidentiality that will freeze internal photos of the iPhone 4,” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple. “What could Apple be holding back?”
Purcher reports, “Note this specific Apple statement below: ‘Although Apple has begun to market the device publicly, these documents reveal technical and design information that has not been publically disclosed in such marketing and that is protected by Apple as confidential and proprietary secrets.'”

Phasers. Set for stun.
You open the innocuous calculator app and then type in an obscure 16 string of numbers which thereby bricks all Android devices within 200 feet and displays the message;
“You dumbasses shoulda’ bought an iPhone!”
A friend of mine who works for told me the new gyroscope was included primarily to protect the hired help of skanks, like Naomi Campbell, who will no longer be able to throw an iPhone during a narcissistic tantrum! – leading the way!

a fingerprint scanner to capture bad guys in case they use it for any evil deeds.
What chip could be used to provide CDMA and GSM? I think we would have seen some hint of that with the prototype that was “obtained” by Giz.
I doubt that Apple is going to go Verizon. Verizon is pretty firmly in the Droid circle now.
So, unless this is software, the teardowns done by Gizmodo and others are a complete waste of time. Tear apart a device and count the number of parts and screws holding them together. “Hey, what’s that do?” “I dunno.”
Finally I’ll be able to attach it to a shark’s forehead and my dream will come true.
@ericdano RE: “I doubt that Apple is going to go Verizon. Verizon is pretty firmly in the Droid circle now.”
Verizon is in the getting more subscribers circle. I don’t think they have any loyalty to handset makers. They just want the subs.
its actually powered by magic
It will take your temperature and pulse and sense clamminess and blood pressure and can send the info to a doctor if necessary.

It’s the ‘one more thing’ that keeps the competitors awake at night.
Maybe Apple is giving a little of the FUD back to the analysts and competitors that they’ve hurled Apple’s way over the last few years.
It’s so energy efficient that on a cool day it can be powered by the heat transfer from the user’s hand to the ambient air and on a warm day it can by the heat transfer from the ambient air to the user’s hand. The only time the battery is needed is when the ambient air temperature is the same as body temperature.
It has a built in Time Machine…. enter the year you want to go to, then hit SEND.
Fingers crossed on the CDMA radio. That’d kick so much ass.

LOL! My first attempt would be November 5, 1955. It was a red-letter day in the history of science!
To R2’s point, these are standard requests. However, this one comes somewhat late in the process. I have no doubt there are prior confidentiality requests in the file on the iP4. So, the question is: at this late stage in the game, pre-WWDC [just days before WWDC opened], what cat was Apple striving to keep in the bag, that wasn’t already out, and is it now out, or is there some hint in the indefinite request?
We haven’t heard much more about the possibility of the back having touch functionality, but that would explain why the Bumpers leave both the front and back exposed. Just a guess.
