Via Twitter, Google-parent Alphabet has announced an increase of $8 per month for its YouTube TV live streaming television service. Alphabet writes, “As content costs have risen and we continue to invest in our quality of service, we’ll be adjusting our monthly cost, after 3 years, from $64.99/mo to $72.99/mo, in order to bring you the best possible TV service.”

New members will see this new price today, while existing members will see this pricing change beginning 4/18. Additionally, we are lowering the price of our 4K Plus add-on from $19.99/mo to $9.99/mo.
We are committed to offering a premium way for you to stream TV, but understand this new price may not work for you. We do hope YouTube TV continues to be your service of choice, but we want to give you the flexibility to cancel at any time. http://yt.be/membership
As always, thank you for your membership, and head here for more details on the upcoming changes. http://yt.be/moreinfo
MacDailyNews Take: Eventually, the old costs of cable – which cord-cutters were trying to avoid – are merely transferred to streaming television services. Luckily, we still have a way to go, so some level of savings over the old cable TV subscription are still being realized even with this price increase.

This is the only reliable service that I’ve found, and I tried many others. I’ll keep paying until it gets as much as cable was, especially since they will have NFL Sunday Ticket this Fall./
My views on this have changed over the years. Originally, I argued that people need to be willing to pay for television at some level to keep alive some channels that just wouldn’t survive with professional content without being somewhat subsidized by others (think an outdoor channel that gets propped up a bit by ESPN) . . . .but honestly, the production quality of many of the YouTube channels I frequent has grown leaps and bounds and impressed me.
I think we’re closer to a model than every before where if a channel can’t survive in an a la carte marketplace then it probably doesn’t deserve to.
YouTube Premium with YouTube Music at $11.99/month is the only entertainment subscription I need. Also, free television in Poland is better than cable in the US. Getting rid of my Comcast equipment/subscription over a decade ago still leaves me with a warm feeling (~$120/month for internet/cable in 2012).
Cord cutting is losing or lost its value proposition.
Started at $35.00, then added tons of Channels no one wants! Bait and switch… Cheating and doing harm… Shameless greed…
