Open thread: So, how do you like your Apple Watch?

So, are you among the relatively lucky few who’ve received your Apple Watch and had some quality time to spend with it?

How’s it working out? Are you liking it? Any problems? Any surprises? How’s the battery life holding out for you after much extra Day One poking, prodding, and Digital Crowning? Have you had to do a restart, as we did on one unit, to get phone calls working again this morning? Other than that, we’ve had no issues of which to speak – although, and this is obviously minor, we do wish we could customize the astronomy Watch face (we’d love to have battery life available there).

Praise or critique, have it at it below!

So, how do you like your Apple Watch?

MacDailyNews Take: We love ours! We’d venture to guess that Steve Jobs would be proud.

  1. So far it’s interesting. It’s comfortable. Smaller than I thought it would be (I got the 42mm space gray Sport with black sport band).

Functionality doesn’t do anything my phone does. Ran a 5K outdoors and I like the tracking. I’m not convinced I won’t return it, because it needs to enhance my life. So far, not too much different from my Pebble. But I did like adding Apple Pay, and looking forward to using it.

  2. I received my SS Apple watch with white sports band on Fri. I had a bit of trouble setting up ApplePay on my watch. After a trip to the Apple store to get the problem resolved I headed over to Wholefoods to try it out. It worked perfectly. The cashier was amazed and thought it was really cool. My wife is drooling over my watch and now wants one. To say the least I love my Apple watch! It’s an amazing piece of technology and dare I say art. Apple has hit the ball out of the park and then some. I will definitely be adding to my long position in the stock.

    1. I guess that was obvious.
More interesting will be an attempt to use gold leaf – as used by picture framers etc. that might actually look pretty close ro the real thing from a distance

  3. i used mine for first whole day yesterday. wore it total of 15 hours and it had 40% battery left. had made 4 phone calls of about a minute each. rode stationary bike 30 minutes. it reminded me many times to get up. ended up wirh 14 out of 12 stand up. received 5-6 notifications from american express when i purchased things online. texted all day with it. great battery life. i have the sport space gray 42mm watch. love it and only into the second full day of this love affair.

  4. Posted before but… just rode stationary bike 31 minutes in activity app and it showed 31 minutes. ended excercise and pressed save. it only logged 20 minutes activity. it did give me credit for 1 min standing within that hour. i did notice when riding stationary bike yesterday after riding 16 minutes it logged less time.

  5. Wore my 42 sport with white strap for 18 hours yesterday. I wear a watch everyday and it feels very comfortable. Easy to set up from my iPhone. Really like it but there is a lot of learning and customizing. Starbucks with the qr worked great but apple pay failed at the wf checkout. Love the Mickey Mouse face.

Most surprising app was the Apple TV remote … Obviously it’s on iPhone and iPad and have used it on occasion but feel natural to use on the watch …. Most 3rd party apps seem slow… Hopefully that will change

Expect my iPhone to stay more on my desk or back pocket…

  6. WooHoo! UPS just notified me that I have a package to be delivered tomorrow, Monday the 27th. It’s coming from China. My Apple Watch is the only thing I have on order, and Apple still shows it as ‘Processing’. Black Stainlees Steel with Black Stainless Link Band. Not supposed to be delivered until May 13 – 27. I say again, WooHoo!!

  7. Note to MDN: the greatest detractor from intelligent discourse is unfiltered “open” forums.

Sixty some comments, and less than 10 on topic. unmoderated is a great way to draw eyeballs (and by extension advertising), but a well moderated forum will do the same thing, the difference between the two being the amount of work involved and the class /intelligence of the posters.

  8. Day two and I’m loving my Apple Watch. Just as was the case with my first generation iPhone, a couple of days of experimentation and play – poof Magic! Despite much play time, battery life was great. On my wrist at 7:30 AM Saturday morning, off at 11:30 PM, 18% battery left. As a side, and never mentioned nuance, I went to bed last night with more juice left in my iPhone than I have ever seen before.

  9. Sad story: I ordered at 12:20 and was told it would arrive late May – Early June. We were away, so no problem. Then we get the news that they were delivering Friday. I’m not there *Waaaaaaaaa!* It’s sitting in a UPS office till I can get home in about 10 days. *Waaaaaa* I want my new toy!

    1. Not impressed! Seems slow to me.

After watching this video I expect a lot more accidental orders and payments with the Apple Watch.

Owner of 2 Macbook Pros, 5 iPads, 1 iPod, 2 iMacs. 2 iPhones, 2 Airport Extreme routers.

  10. Thanks to my wonderful hubby, who got up at 3 a.m. To order my watch, I got mine Friday morning. I couldn’t be more pleased. I had no issues with set-up, just followed instructions. It’s already saved me loads of time running for my iPhone. My only beef? I now know how very little I exercise!

  11. From I boxing to 48 hours later this has been a remarkable experience. The watch is an extraordinary example of just what we’ve come to expect from apple. From the whimsical scan to pair process to the incredible haptic bumps you get, I found joyful moments again and again! I exhausted every capability of the watch and downloaded countless apps for it. It’s a very exciting new piece of tech that I’m happy to add to my ecosystem. Remember, this is just the beginning. Apple Watch 1.0. Lots more great stuff to come.

I’m reading some comments about how “this is not a necessity” and I can’t help but wonder why you would ever think a wristwatch is vital? It’s a luxury with a thousand uses. You don’t need it. Nobody does. Get it if it makes you happy. If it doesn’t skip it! I love mine!

  12. I’ve been tracking my steps and runs, getting notifications from loads of apps so I know when to pull out my phone and when to ignore it, controlling the music on my bluetooth headphones, getting nudges to get up and move, using a silent alarm, and I even used it to find my phone when I lost it.

The difference being I did all this with a Gamin Vivosmart for a third of the cost of the cheapest Apple Watch, I’ve been doing this for months, and my battery lasts a week at a minimum. Until Apple Pay launches in the UK, it’s just not worth the investment when so much of the core functionality is covered by other devices. It does show though how the real killer app isn’t on the watch at all and isn’t even an app – it’s Apple Pay.

  13. I’m very impressed with my sport version. I used it today at the gym with its built in playlist and my wireless Beats earbuds. With this setup, I can elect to leave my iPhone locked up in the locker. Very convenient mobility.

  14. I got it before noon on Friday and by 1:30 I was at Sephora using ApplePay, next stop was Whole Foods. Until you actually have one you can’t imagine just how incredible it is on so many levels. Ordered 2 more that afternoon–one for my husband and another for my daughter’s 50th birthday. The full animation Mickey face is beyond cool and the exercise tracker puts my Fitbit to shame. I could go on and on.
