“In line with our report from earlier this month, Apple today launched its first trade-in program for non-iPhones in its Apple Retail Stores,” Mark Gurman reports for 9to5Mac.

“The program allows users of select Android, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry phones to bring in their devices and receive credit toward the immediate purchase of a new iPhone 5c, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus,” Gurman reports, “(but not an Apple Watch).”

    1. Yeah, the old, “Desperate times call for desperate measures” theory. After all, $178 billion of cash in the bank can only keep the company running but for so long. Apple is seriously putting the screws to the whole high-end Android platform.

Consumers may have to pay more for iPhones, but Apple is making it little more difficult for users to simply stick with non-iPhone smartphones. All those Apple retail stores makes it so much easier for a fair number of non-iPhone users to switch. Apple seems to be chipping away, bit by bit, putting little cracks and weakening the foundation of Android. Who knows? Maybe one day it will all come tumbling down. Apple just needs a way to keep Android from being profitable to Google.
