“During the WWDC 14 keynote address, Apple introduced OS Yosemite, which is the company’s newest version of their desktop operating system,” Konrad Krawczyk writes for Digital Trends.
“During the reveal, Cupertino introduced several new features that will be debuting with the new OS once it’s released sometime this fall,” Krawczyk writes. “They include the ability to receive and make phone calls using your Mac computer, the option to craft notes using your finger and the MacBook’s track pad, greater integration with iCloud, visual enhancements, and much more.”
“Though Apple announced it is launching a beta program, which will allow the public to test drive OS X Yosemite sometime this summer months before it is released, at this point, we can only stare,” Krawczyk writes. “Feel free to scroll through this gallery of images, which feature the enhancements and improvements that will arrive once OS X Yosemite is launched a few months from now.”

If we’re going to be getting that many web results from Spotlight, that seems to be a hidden little dagger in Google’s side.
Although I must admit, that I’m not to excited to see so many other things come up in the results. It can be good and bad I guess. It will definitely some some people some time, but on the other hand, it reminds me of trying to find a Post It on a cluttered desk.
Like “phone bill – nope, hmm, need to pay that though. Discover card application – wtf? people still use that?, trash, there it is! Nope, that was my dentist appointment – forgot. Ahh, here it is – my new friend John’s phone number.
Case in point being your dentist is also named John, your Mom asked you if she should apply for a Discover Card, and the CEO of AT&T named John sent some mass email about going green.
And you have to be reminded of all that nonsense while looking for John’s phone number so you can go have a few beers.
Apple’s baked an easy way to use Duckduckgo for search.
BOOM !
Go to the Safari drop down menu at Safari>Safari Extensions and download and activate the DDGo extension. It then routes all your search line queries to DDGo from that point forward.
That’s part of the brilliance. It knows to put more relevant stuff at the top. If you’ve got a contact named john and you start searching for John, that’s going to be at, or near the top.
Here’s hoping that the OS X version of iBooks is much improved. No meta-data editing, cryptic storage of books buried in the User’s library folder (instead of being able to have your library located wherever you’d like), and poor performance are all handicaps it has now.
Love OSX but even with this improved version, a seasoned Windows user is amused as OSX is still way behind on several fronts. Heck even OS8 is just catch up features to Android. This said, you still have to respect the effort and the awareness of needing to improve.
Seasoned Windows user? I used Windows at a systems admin level for 8 to 10 hours every work day for years. It’s nowhere near OS X in sophistication, ease of use, and functionality.
Unplug your mouse and then let’s talk. Windows runs off a keyboard and the multi app integration is still superior. I use a few Macs and both run Parallels and Windows 8 and enjoy both platforms.
I remember back in the old days, shopping at Comp UAS, how you Windows-geek cashiers use to rib me about me buying Mac stuff, said it was too easy, I didn’t have to know code, blah blah blah. Still a Machead in spite of Apple’s continuing incremental habits and political BS because – IT JUST WORKS AND I DONT HAVE TO KNOW CODE.
Enjoy that whole Windows 8 thing, why don’t you….
And it takes a ‘seasoned Windows user’ to stay ahead of all the malware/viruses/botnets that come with Windows.
Give up, JP and Paul. Against your PERSONAL remarks is the simple fact that Windows is losing users to Mac, month by month. The Web is full of MS to Apple switcher stories. The one Apple to MS that Microsoft tried to publicize a few years ago turned out to be a fake.
