Samsung’s Electronics’ mobile chief departs

“Kevin Packingham, the chief product officer for the mobile division of Samsung Electronics, who was involved in introducing several of Samsung’s popular Galaxy devices, has left the company,” Brian X. Chen reports for The New York Times.

“The reasons for Mr. Packingham’s departure were unclear. Samsung’s spokespeople declined to provide details on whether his exit was voluntary. The departure was announced internally as recently as Tuesday,” Chen reports. “‘Kevin Packingham has departed Samsung Mobile,’ said Ashley Wimberly, a Samsung Mobile spokeswoman, in a statement. ‘We thank Kevin for his contributions and wish him well in his future endeavors.'”

Chen reports, “Over his two years at Samsung Mobile, in Dallas, Mr. Packingham was instrumental in the global unveiling of the Galaxy S III smartphone, the first serious contender to Apple’s iPhone last year, in terms of sales. He was involved in the negotiations that enabled Samsung to release the smartphone on all of the big American carriers.”

MacDailyNews Take: Maybe he woke up one day and decided he was finally sick and tired of doing the bidding of lying, cheating thieves?

Or maybe he realized that he’d be stuck trying to peddle 32-bit antiques for the foreseeable future, so he got going while the going was good?

  1. It could be that Kevin split before he could be fired for slipping up. He might have thought it an ideal time to dodge over to a waiting cubicle at Microsoft, who could use a man of his talents.

It could be that he was sent packing and paid to dummy up. Both the benchmarking shenanigans and the public relations flummery show incompetence in the arts of prevarication and fakery, two of Samsung’s best tools of persuasion.

Or, it could be a total coincidence.

      1. Oh yeah, what ever happened to the Android guy at XiaoMi? I’m sure he was a little depressed when he found out Google Services are blocked in China (oops), but was delighted to find the Escort Services in China to be top notch and very affordable.

  2. No, ShameSong decided to copy Microsoft this time. They “fired” this guy to help get him hired at a top asian competitor, where he will proceed to wreck the company from the inside so ShameSong can buy up the scraps for a pittance in 2-3 years.
