Apple debuts new 16GB iPod touch model for $229

Apple today debuted a new, stripped-down iPod touch model, officially called “iPod touch 16GB Black & Silver,” on their online store and in Apple Retail Stores.

The model, which looks the same as the existing models, offers 16GB of storage, an ultraslim design, 4-inch Retina display, dual-core A5 chip, and Apple EarPods for US$229 and comes only in Black & Silver.

Beyond the one-color offering, differences between this new, stripped-down iPod touch and the previous members of the line include the lack of a 5MP iSight camera with 1080p HD video recording capability and no iPod touch loop in the box. The new iPod touch 16GB Black & Silver does, like all other iPod touches, offer a front-facing FaceTime HD camera with 720p video recording capability.

  1. Holy shxt here we go again Apple.

Fragment your products and confuse people.

Apple should be offering a 16 and 32 GB iPod Touch that’s BETTER and CHEAPER, not something that’s stripped down just to get the price down.

This isn’t Apple anymore. This is like a PC maker competing on price.

Funny how now a lot of you fanboy idiots change your tune and make excuses for Apple trying to compete on price stripping down their products, yet just yesterday you all were slaves to the idea that Apple’s products carry premium prices because they’re premium products… and that the PC industry is killing itself because of how cheap all of the junk has become.

What you’re seeing is a deviation from an original vision at Apple that has made it so successful. They’re compromising on their products to get the price cheaper, eliminating features they worked so hard to create and package in the first place.
