“Video game publisher Electronic Arts announced on Thursday the launch of Origin for Mac, a new built-for-platform version of EA’s video game download service that will bring some of the company’s biggest titles to Apple desktops and laptops,” Kevin Bostic reports for AppleInsider.
“The arrival of Origin on the Mac means that Apple computer users will now have an all-in-one access point for titles such as The Sims 3, Dragon Age 2, Batman: Arkham City, and LEGO Harry Potter,” Bostic reports. “‘Origin is going to allow us,’ says EA Origin Vice President of Production Mike Blank, ‘to get games into the hands of our consumers as quickly as we can, to enable our gamers to connect with their friends and to enjoy their gaming experience as quickly and directly as possible.'”
Bostic reports, “The new Mac-centric service, which has been in public alpha since January, will give users a persistent user account, allowing them to download cross-platform games on multiple machines, with purchases and in-game progress saved to their accounts.”

Where Steam goes, Origin will follow.
Bypass AppStore version of Steam?
The big advantage was always that apps/games bought via Mac App Store can be installed on all my (up to 5) Macs.
Is this also possible via Origin…?
Yes, both Origin and Steam are account based, once you buy something you can download and install on as many computers as you want to.
I just want this…

I remember when Electronic Arts would release anything for Mac users.
I mean, “wouldn’t”.
LEGO Harry Potter. Are you freaking kidding me. And the Sims 3. So you can build the drunk coed of your dreams. Spare us.
Give me Command & Conquer and I will be happy.
The selection looks to be rather lacking. ;(
Steam started out strong, now it’s a real stinker also…
