“Samsung Display said Monday that it will terminate its contract with Apple and no longer supply liquid crystal display (LCD) panels to its long time partner,” Cho Mu-hyun and Kim Yoo-chul report for The Korea Times. “The news comes as speculation is mounting over a rift between the two firms that have shared a long relationship in electronic components.”
“The display panel manufacturer plans to completely cut its years-long business ties with Apple as it believes its American partner is no longer a cash-generator due to the iPhone maker’s stiffer supply-chain management structure,” Cho and Kim report. “The Cupertino, California-based firm has been lowering its reliance on Samsung-manufactured displays for use in its popular i-branded devices as it is leveraging its influence to source components from Samsung’s rivals attracted by better pricing.”
Cho and Kim report, “Samsung Display was the top supplier to Apple as of the end of the first six months of this year, shipping over 15 million LCDs, followed by its biggest rival LG Display with 12.5 million and Japan’s Sharp with 2.8 million, said market research firm DisplaySearch. ‘But Samsung shipped less than 3 million to Apple during the third quarter of this year and we expect the quarterly shipment in the fourth quarter to fall to some 1.5 million,’ said the source, who is directly involved with the matter.”
“Samsung Display didn’t provide panels for Apple’s new iPad — tentatively named the iPad Mini. The new tablet will have a 7.85 inch screen, which was exclusively reported by The Korea Times in March this year,” Cho and Kim report. “‘Although we are losing Apple business, Samsung looks safe as we found the right alternatives — Amazon and Samsung Electronics’ handset division,” stressed the source.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Apple dumped Samsung.
Apple dumped Samsung because they lie, cheat, and steal and they should not be doing business with liars, cheaters, and thieves, as we’ve been saying for quite some time.
This Korea Times “report” is the equivalent of a girl claiming she broke up with her boyfriend on Monday after he dumped her for serial cheating a week ago.
STFU, Sammy, you lying, cheating, pitiful slut.
(And, any hopes of replacing Apple’s iPad business with Amazon’s falls firmly within the purview of the morbidly insane.)

Typical Korean company reaction – everything is about saving face even when they are proven in an international court to be copiers.
Even when Apple won the court case for $1 billion Samedung kept marketing and promoting the banned products.
Bottomline, an it don’t matter how the Samedung people spin it – Samedung lost the court case and need Apple more than Apple needs Samedung.
Personally, I will never buy a Samedung product as all they are are liars and copiers of innovation.
This is why I now own a Bosch, instead of a Samsung dishwasher.
In the end the market will force Apple to directly make some items CPU’s, screens in America, or Europe.
DEFCON 1: Apple launched its rockets! MIRV are coming down on Google and Samsung! and now its a little to late to scramble, Imminent destruction of both companies!
your all just pissed because the gs3 is a better phone then the iPhone.5….phones are going to be rectangular, pinch to zoom is standard, etc etc …. the OS’s are completely different these days…icons apps etc belong to everyone… apple can’t whine and sue forever they are just alienating the rest of the tech industry and turning off their customers and potential customers…. things will change apple will not be top dog forever…and all of you will cling to your beloved apple and insult the world as new technologies emerge and you miss out…get over it
“…pinch to zoom is standard, etc etc …. the OS’s are completely different these days…icons apps etc belong to everyone…”
No, those are patented intellectual property invented and designed by Apple. Apple did not dedicate them to any industry standard. They were stolen. If these designs were so obvious why didn’t Samsung’s phones look and operate like iPhones before the iPhone was released?
“Apple literally loses a good support. Apple will suffer from supplying just like iPhone 5. Those of you seem stupid. What makes you think that apple takes advantage of? Apple doesn’t manufacture nothing. They all do contract. If they lose a good suppliers, their business will be doom.”
Sorry, but if the support from Samsung was good, Samsung would not have been stealing Apple’s ideas. Also, Apple is not suffering from lack of sales on iPhone 5.
Apple DOES make something. Without Apple’s iPhone and iPads, we would still have BB’s and Windows tablet that stagnated for 10 years prior to the Apple iPad. It literally engineers and designs the finest phones and pads on the market, with the best OS and ecosystem to power these items. It pays others to build these designs, both here in the U.S.A, and abroad. Apple will not allow their suppliers stealing their ideas, hence Samsung’s limited business model with Apple now. Apple has pulled their business with Samsung and gone elsewhere for the manufacturing of their components. This is Samsung’s loss.
By the way, I have yet to see satisfactory support from either Samsung or LG on any of their products, and I’m sorry to have to say that. I have not purchased either product for 2 years now, nor will I due to bad support.
Bye, bye Sammy! …
Samsung = bunch of rotten spoiled poor sportsman brats
Who wants to do business with thieves?
I would like to dismiss Samsung as a copycat and a hack, but the do produce some high quality products, i.e. their LCDs. However, I’m glad to see Apple distance themselves from Samsung. Shamelessly stealing designs and technology from their vendors cannot go unchallenged. I just wish Apple would bring manufacturing back to the US instead of going abroad to such a degree.
Bye bye, Scamfun!
Don’t let the door hit your lying, cheating ass.
Apple is finally done with you…time to celebrate!
LMAO
Remember this… LG and Sharpake displays. Apple will soon sue them for using their technology and Apple will be searching for displays and no one will sell to them Haha
Dream on.. LG could, but Sharp would never work with Apple that way.
RIP Samedung.
And good riddance. Apple doesn’t need suppliers who steal their intellectual property.
I started to dump Apple not because its a lousy product but because people there are getting greedy and arrogant…..
