Statement by Apple’s Board of Directors:
We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.
Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.
His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.
Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

MacDailyNews Take: Oh, how we’d hoped this day would never come. Steve Jobs changed our lives profoundly.
We deeply mourn the passing of Steven P. Jobs. We have all lost a true Renaissance man. Mr. Jobs made the world a better place while bravely fighting an insidious disease during the last several years of his life under much public scrutiny. While we hope he did all of this free of pain, we suspect otherwise. Add “courageous” to the long list of superlatives describing this singular genius.
We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. Thank you, Mr. Jobs for everything you have given to the world.
Rest in peace.

In 2009, following a liver transplant that he credited with prolonging his life, Steve Jobs said hoped that everyone would consider organ donation (video). For more information, in the US, please visit organdonor.gov. In Mr. Jobs’ honor, please consider giving the gift of life.

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.
Maybe they have to be crazy.
How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
We make tools for these kinds of people.
While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Today we have lost one of the greatest innovator’s and greatest CEO of all time. R.I.P. Steven Paul Jobs You will be missed by million’s and that’s not an understatement.
You were my Hero…
Sad day for many fans of Steve.
RIP
Bet the folks at Apple are balling their eyes out. 🙁
*bawling
Didn’t expect this so soon. Love you Steve. You were a blessing to us all.
Thanks a bunch Steve. You will be missed.
It is true. Check out the Apple web site.
Last night I saw Cars 2 in 3D. In the credits, at the top of the ‘Thanks To’ list was Steve Jobs.
Considering the joy and creativity Apple computers have given me for the last 20 years I also have to put Steve Jobs at the top of my ‘Thanks To’ list. What a remarkable man.
Rejoice that Steve Jobs helped all of our lives and revolutionized the computer community.
Enjoy the next life Steve. (^_^)/
Oh wow. I did not expect that today, particularly a day after all the speculation that Steve would make an appearance at the Let’s Talk iPhone event.
If anyone is doubting the report, just go to apple.com.
🙁
HOLY CRAP!!!
What?? When?? Why?? Did cancer finally win? 🙁
Please no winers or losers.
It’s immaterial how Steve passed away.
What’s important is he got to say goodbye, unlike others he was able to complete his mission. I say it was a success.
Thanks again, and for ever.
I’m beside myself, what a visionary, what a hero for our time. Taught me to “Think Different”. Speechless!!!
Speechless…RIP STEVE JOBS you made the world and my life so much better
Condolences to Steve’s family, his Apple family and my fellow Apple devotees here at MDN for such a great loss.
Good bye Steve. The only ray of sunshine is no more suffering.
God Bless.
We lost, and will never have such a person as great as Steve Jobs again.
Sail Free, Steve Jobs.
🙁 Sad
Yet so happy to know Steve Jobs through his Mac computer and iPhone & iPad and Pixar movies!!!!
I’m glad I worked for Apple Store 🙂
He ” stayed hungry ” through his work!
Let’s pray for his soul as he truly is now in the iCloud…..
Wow! RIP Steve…..rest now. My thoughts are with your soul and your family.
Thank you.
I wish your soul the best of journeys. Maybe I’ll meet you on the other side. Love & light.
Nice dent, Steve. RIP.
Thank you for posting this. It is the most appropriate obituary for Steve Jobs that I can think of. Almost brought a tear to my eye.
Very sad news. Steve was the Henry Ford of our generation and his vision will live on. He has instilled a culture at Apple that I believe will continue. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Steve’s family and the Apple employees. We share your grief.
. . . Steve was the Henry Ford of our generation . . .
Here, here.
We got to see the life changed by an american icon, inventor and business leader.
We were lucky.

We have been greatly blessed to have lived in the age of Steve Jobs.
Nobel peace prize for Steve, a great man!
as much as i’d love to see that.. strict rules forbid posthumous Nobel prizes. (the only exception was the one on last monday due to the guy passing away last friday… Sad)
