MacDailyNews Take: Oh, how we’d hoped this day would never come. Steve Jobs changed our lives profoundly.

We deeply mourn the passing of Steven P. Jobs. We have all lost a true Renaissance man. Mr. Jobs made the world a better place while bravely fighting an insidious disease during the last several years of his life under much public scrutiny. While we hope he did all of this free of pain, we suspect otherwise. Add “courageous” to the long list of superlatives describing this singular genius.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. Thank you, Mr. Jobs for everything you have given to the world.

Rest in peace.

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?

We make tools for these kinds of people.

While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

  1. A true visionary, a man who, over and over, changed the fundamental ways in which humanity goes about its business. A man whose legacy will be timeless and legendary.
RIP, Steve. You did well. Thank you.

  2. This is truly the loss of such a young incredible person.

Although we all know our time will come, it’s never the right time. We should always try and leave this world a better place than when we arrived in it and I think Steve Jobs exemplifies that in more ways that one!

We extend our deepest and warmest condolences to Steve’s family and his family at Apple.

  3. Dear Steve,

Thanks for changing the world. Don’t worry about us. Tim’s a great man.

Also for those who think the leadership screwed the pooch on the iPhone 4S delivery, don’t worry Steve, the team’s hearts were heavy in your thoughts, as is ours.

    Unbelievable,

    Sleep peacefully my friend.

  4. What a huge loss. You can be sure the iPhone 4S, iOS 5 & iCloud are all from Steve’s last work as will be the iPad 3 as well next Spring. I am very sad to hear this news. My prayers and blessings go out to all his family.

    1. I was privileged to meet Steve when I drove Buckminster Fuller to Apple HQ for a cold call introduction of him to Steve in about 1978. Everyone dropped what they were doing and Steve was happy to give Bucky a personal tour of the place. I was a charter adopter of two Macintosh computers in 1984 allowing me to easily startup one of the first Mac Magazines, MacBriefs. Steve has been my hero and constant mental companion ever since. I’ll miss his presence in life a lot. But his presence in my life and in all of ours forthcoming will persist in all the great tools he’s made for us and which will continue to be made for us by the creative empire he has built and left us all to continue to cherish. His influences and legacy will never die. God bless his wife and children.

  6. This is one of the biggest losses in the history of humanity. Nobody changed the world like Steve Jobs did. Nobody in the modern history. This is a sad day for those who hope, who believe in hard work, honesty, and …
I heard the news via NPR while driving and I felt like I was hit by a lightening. I wish strength to his wife and children. And of course to who follow SJ’s works. I will miss him forever. Even though I never met him, I feel like I lost someone who is very close to me. I am sure a lot of that feel like that. I think he has touched the lives of everyone in the modern world. What a day.
