“T-Mobile in a discussion at the Mobilize conference further ruled out the prospects of an iPhone 5 on its network,” Electronista reports.
“CMO Cole Brodman told AllThingsD his network would ‘love to have’ the iPhone, as it was a ‘great device,’ but was adamant there would be no iPhone on T-Mobile in 2011,” Electronista reports. “‘If we were to get an iPhone this year, nobody has told us,’ Brodman explained.”
Electronista reports, “Sprint CTO Stephen Bye, however, gave non-denials that supported the indirect confirmation of iPhone plans. When pressed, he explained that he “can’t comment” on whether or not an Apple deal was in the works.”

This is all dependent on the T-Mobile/ATT acquisition. Obviously if ATT obtains T-Mobile, the question becomes moot. And there is nothing in this statement that says T-Mobile, if left on its own cannot have the iPhone early in 2012.

“the exec indicated that T-Mobile is eager to add the iPhone to its network but Apple has yet to extend the invitation.”
“We’ll wait for that phone call,” he said.

Tmobile is dying. If they aren’t bought by ATT, they’ll be gone in a year or 2 anyway.
iPhone is great and all but it can’t perform miracles.
Numbers I could find:
US cellular carriers market share
Verizon 33%
ATT 31%
Sprint 16%
tmobile 11%
all others 9%
It sounds more and more like the mother ship of T-Mobile USA and AT&T have been doing whatever it takes to prevent T-Mobile from getting or giving the impression they will not get any iPhone in a timely manner. These actions will only hurt Apple.
