Apple pulls iTunes Store affiliation from Christian Values Network

“Apple has pulled its iTunes store from the Christian Values Network due to what it sees as the network’s contributions to controversial groups, as tech companies tread carefully in the midst of complicated social issues,” Joe Arico reports for Mobiledia.

“The Cupertino, Calif.-based company removed iTunes from the list of stores on CVN.org after the company discovered CVN had made contributions to what the Southern Poverty Law Center deemed ‘active hate groups,'” Arico reports. “Apple was made aware of CVN’s actions by Western Washington University student Ben Crowthe, who started a petition against Apple’s connections to the group on Change.org, citing CVN’s support of groups he characterized as anti-gay and anti-women.”

Arico reports, “Apple is not the first company to remove one of its offerings from CVN. Microsoft pulled itself off of the website two weeks ago, also a result of a customer-driven campaign on Change.org. The two companies join Macy’s, Wells Fargo, Delta Airlines, BBC America and others that have all removed their online stores from the site.”

  1. Quite a few posters should be ASHAMED! This came about because of what happened at Ytøya when kids as young as 14 were executed with cold blood by a blond, blue eyed christian fundamentalist. What Apple did was morally correct.

I live in Stavanger Norway. Last Monday I participated in front of the cathedral together with 75 000 others. The municipality of Stavanger has about 100 000 inhabitants…

At the school where my daughter is, all three that was at Ytøya survived. In a couple of other schools they didn’t…

SHAME ON YOU! YOU DIDN’T DESERVE OUR COMPATION AFTER 9/11

    SHAME ON YOU!

    1. An idiot, a fool, an Evil person hijacked the name of Jesus Christ. This was not a Christian who did these evil things any more than if he said he was a doctor or gay. Would you then blame them. Aim your hate where it belongs and don’t be so quick to blame an entire group, of which he is obviously not a real part of. You would not want to be treated in such a way.
I’m sorry for the losses caused by this evil man, but I am a man who embraces fundamental belief in Jesus Christ. You know what those are? Jesus came to “…seek and save those who are lost” he willing gave his life as a sacrifice for the imperfections of all of us. The choice to follow Him is given to every woman, man and child. To truly follow Him does not result in Evil.
There is way too much emotion going on before people type here. It is kind of understandable as it has been hard to control my emotion as I write. My apologies.

      1. You might want to study the history of christianity one day, read a chapter or two about crusades. Just as an example. Even in our days crusades seem to be appropriate. Beware of fundamentalists, those who insist that only their god is the one and only. Or their country is god’s own country.

Don’t call anybody “lost” just because he or she has a different point of view. Don’t try to “save” someone just because she or he was raised in a different religion.

        1. Hey, even better, why don’t you give us your watered-down, the West is evil, guilt-ridden college professor’s version of what you think might have happened in the Crusades.

(Because I LOVE to hear Hollywood’s version of history!)
Please make sure the Muslims are scholarly and the Christians are ragged mongrels.

  2. Ano Nym,

Sigh, you made no reference to ” hijack”, the “doctor or gay” what if and you ignored the Jesus QUOTE. Selective response shows to me you have no use for another perspective. ( just my opinion ) I hope I’m wrong.
I will try, however, to clarify and hope you will take time to read it through. ( Not asking you to agree!)

You assume that I know nothing of the Crusades, inquisition, etc. They are ancient examples of the hijacking of Christianity for the purpose of empowering men and institutions. Nothing about them i know of brought honor to God. What if after you die and your name was used to justify something that was incredibly repulsive to you. How would your family, friends and even those you taught and gave you their respect feel? Know one wants their life or the life of someone they love misrepresented. That is exactly what has happened to Christianity, among so many other things in history.

Know one can make anybody a Christian, though some try. Know one can proclaim anyone lost or saved. KNOW ONE! Did you notice that the quote “…seek and save those who are lost” was in fact a quote. Quoted for consideration, not declaration. Sorry if that was not clear. Do I believe it? Yes. Can I or should I try to make someone believe it? No. Coercion can never be a part of Christianity. Can I share it? Yes, just as you or anyone else can share your views. Choices are best made with the accurate knowledge of many perspectives.

Yes, I believe Jesus is the one way to God. It was a choice I made forty one years ago when I was twenty. I can proclaim it, share it and write about it, but it is still a choice that must be made on an individual level. A person can bring another to that decision, but the decision must be made without coercion.

  3. If this were about grammer or correct word choice, you win. But it s not about winning, at least for me it isn’t. For me it is about expanding my understanding of why people choose their perspectives and hopefully share a new perspective. But again you ignore the content. There us no room for superiority positioning in an honest communication of perspective. Please stop playing and engage. I’m not attacking you nor am I “forcing” something upon you. If you don’t want to go on then
don’t respond and you will never hear from me again.
