Obama talked R&D, shaky economy with Steve Jobs, other tech execs

“Research spending and technology exports were some of the menu items Thursday evening when President Barack Obama sat down for dinner with corporate chieftains from Apple Inc., Facebook Inc. and Google Inc.,” Jared A. Favole reports for The Wall Street Journal.

“At the home of venture capitalist John Doerr just outside San Francisco, Mr. Obama met with Apple’s Steve Jobs, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Google’s Eric Schmidt, among others,” Favole reports. “The overall aim of the meeting was for Mr. Obama to discuss his competitiveness agenda, and to find new ways the government and private sector can work together to lift the shaky economy.”

Favole reports, “It is unclear how specific discussions got on areas such as taxes. The business community, and technology companies in particular, have raised concerns about Mr. Obama’s proposal to boost taxes on overseas income.”

    1. This was nothing more than Maobama looking to shake these billionaires down for campaign contributions. Nothing more. Don’t buy into the Government controlled media hype. Maobama could care less about private sector jobs.

    1. “Civility!, Civility!!” Oh wait, as the cowardly Wisconsin Democratic Senators flee to scurry off to Vice-President’s Dick Cheney’s ‘undisclosed secured location’, the Union mob in WI with Obama’s “Godfather” consent just broke that rule… They might as well be pissing on that 9 year old Christina-Taylor Green’s grave. Oh well, so much for the Gabby Gifford pledge… Knew when Obama spoke, it was “Just words. Just speeches!” Just like this meandering tech summit, MDN nailed that title right, “Obama talked…” That’s all the man ever does. Just like the taxpayer wasted Alan Simpson, Erskine Bowles Fiscal Commission that not one suggestion was even considered in Obama’s budget. Although shouldn’t have expected more considering when Obama called for economic workgroups at the beginning of his term that he MC’d for about 10 minutes then left to hit the back 9 is my guess, while telling the participants he’ll look over the suggestions when they are done… Somehow, I can imagine this guy doing the same thing in his early and informative years where he skates through high-school and college with cheat sheets and cliff notes. You know the type.

Anyway, no one needs to be cued to know our clueless president is currently contributing consistent crap! Sadly, we have to witness it every day.

      1. Thank you for demonstrating my point so thoroughly.

By the way, did you happen to notice that WI is projected to have a *$140 million budget surplus* this year. So just why was it that the governor needed to break the unions? That is, all the public employee unions *except* the three that endorsed him during the campaign…

      2. Perhaps you can change your moniker to “clueless”. Anyone who writes such drivel, employing a one paragraph, disjointed sentence structure, is obviously “clueless”.

  1. For all of you people on the protest march, you unionistas, you Democrats, you better think long and hard about whether you want mob rule in this country or not, because, remember, according to all the polls last November we have by far the biggest mob. It ain’t even close. -Rush Limbaugh, February18, 2011

In the U.S.A, conservatives remain the largest group (40%), followed by moderates (35%) and then liberals (21%). – Gallup, December 16, 2010

    1. Is that a threat by Limbaugh? You notice that you never see this mans picture taken anywhere in public? He just spouts hate and division from his little bunker, and rakes in million of year doing it.

    2. First of all, if you have to label, then know that moderates will join forces with liberals when conservatives get pushy. Second of all, liberals are generally in better physical shape than ultra conservatives, who tend to be pudgy old white people with strong reactionary tendencies.

  2. I hate to be a pessimist but Mr. Obama will do all this listen to CEO’s of Silicon Valley all he wants but listening and implementing the advice given to you are two different animals. Unfortunately labor and the many trough eaters of the government (local, state, and federal) farm will not allow this to happen.

    1. Since you brought up the farm metaphor, remember what farmer’s used to say, “Don’t complain about food with your mouth full.” So don’t complain about government workers when you drive on the roads, or call for help from the police or firefighters, or go to a PTA meeting with a teacher in the evening, or get rescued by the Coast Guard, or drink clean water and eat safe food, or fly across the country safely, or are protected from attacks by the military, …

      1. @8^p
I am saying that government is costing too much. About roads, why when I drive through repair areas, I see usually 10 guys, out of the 10, 2 or 3 are doing some work and the other guys are just standing around and BSing? Why is it that a firefighter or police man can retire at age 55 with a pension at 95% of their last salary while others have to contribute at least 25%, be lucky if the employer matches it and work well into their 60’s or 70’s? Great example of teachers showing up at PTA meetings, look at Wisconsin and they sick calls that were made, Coast Guard and the military are the one group I feel get short changed on defense spending when most of that budget is for way too expensive weapon systems that former generals that are now civilian lobbyists push toward their buddies in Congress? Clean water and food seem to have gotten worse with the amount of Ecoli and Salmonella food contaminations.
I do not know about you but if you like paying 25% of federal and another 15% in state taxes (if you have state taxes) of your income and see the results, by all means be my guest and fork over more of your income. Others are getting sick and tired of working 2 or even 3 jobs just to make ends meet.

        @omanansky
I agree about presidents do not make policy but your Mr. Obama should be in the same category of he is way over his head. Oh and I am not a President Bush fan either.

  3. Just wait as republicans will bring USA back to a Middle Age stage! $ won’t get stronger and freedom will be bound by obsoletes believes…
Hope americans will be wise enough to be grateful for having a President like Obama, for he succeeded in regilding the blazon of the USA in the world. That was not such easy goal to reach!

    1. You are on CRACK Foulmax you fool. Obummer a great president??????? He is the absolute WORST yet. Not even close. The guy is about to be caught for not being born here. He’ll be voted out anyway and blocked every step of the way from this point on. Suck it.

  4. All traditional governments now know that a free, unfettered, and unregulated communication system used by the citizens is considered dangerous to itself. Egypt has shown that a country can implement the kill switch fairly effectively.

Without these tech giants and power brokers on board, the White House and its NSA, CIA, and HS would likely not be able to implement the “US Kill Switch” reliably.

Just say no the US Kill Switch.
