Apple on Thursday released iOS 27.1, a software update available exclusively to owners of the iPhone Duo. The company said the update focuses on refinements specific to the Duo’s dual-display hardware and will not be offered for other iPhone models.

The iPhone Duo, which launched earlier this year with a foldable dual-screen design, receives several Duo-only optimizations in the 27.1 release. According to Apple’s release notes, the update improves continuity between the two displays, reduces latency when apps span both screens, and adds new multitasking gestures for split-view and slide-over workflows. Battery management algorithms were also adjusted to better account for the power draw of simultaneous display use.

In addition, iOS 27.1 includes a revised version of the Duo’s always-on outer display mode, allowing more third-party widgets and live activities to appear without waking the inner screen. Apple said the changes address feedback from early Duo users who wanted greater flexibility with the cover display while the device is closed.

The update also contains standard security patches and bug fixes, though Apple noted that the security content is the same as what is already available on other iPhones running iOS 27.0.2. No new features were added for non-Duo models.

Apple confirmed that iOS 27.1 is rolling out now through the Settings app on compatible iPhone Duo devices. The company did not provide a timeline for when, or whether, any of the Duo-specific features would be adapted for future iPhone models. Support documentation indicates that the update requires at least 50 percent battery or a connection to power during installation.

MacDailyNews Note: Owners of other iPhones will continue receiving updates through the standard iOS 27 release track. Apple has not announced any additional software-only exclusives for the Duo at this time.
