“FaceTime video call support may soon be coming to platforms outside iOS, rumors cited by a French website suggest,” iPodNN reports.

“The technology is currently available on the iPhone 4 and the fourth-generation iPod touch,” iPodNN reports. “Should claims be accurate, FaceTime could soon be available on Macs through iChat, and on Windows systems by way of an unmentioned app or apps.”
iPodNN reports, “The standard is designed to be used on multiple platforms, which may mean it is only a matter of time before Mac and Windows support arrives, whether from Apple or a third party.”

MacDailyNews Take: Not a matter of if, just when.
Skype… Now with FaceTime
MDN take is absolutely correct, it’s when not if.
Bring it on … A.S.A.P. please Apple.
Been wonderin’ what’s taking them so long. Facetime on the Mac is a no-brainer. Then again, I thought iChat on the iPhone was a no-brainer. Maybe this is going to be a total solution package.
And speaking of no-brainers, where is my to-do list from iCal on my iPhone and why don’t the notes from my Mac sync to the notes from my iPhone and vice-versa.
Woo hoo!!! Can’t wait for this. My family keeps in touch through iChat. More reason to convince the family to buy more apple products.
I’m wondering if ATT is pressuring Apple to not let them release it.
Any day now, any day, we shall be released.
One more nail in the coffin.
… AOL on a Windows machine, thus FaceTime – by activating the iChat linkage – ought to be able to do the same.
Of course, iChat allows you to start a 4-way video conference while FaceTime only allows you to initiate a call with one other person. I wonder if this will allow me to use iChat to link with my son (video on work/Windows laptop) and my daughter (iPhone) at the same time. Talk about added access to the Enterprise world! The ability, not my access to my kids. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
Now just imagine that on a Mac tablet! 😀
Really? iChat…is already “Facetime” able…If you have a webcam…you are ready to go. It has been out for about 4 years…that I know about. You can also use screen sharing…this is where facetime originated..
It should have already been offered on the Mac with it’s iChat on day one. I expected iChat to be released for Windows the same day. iPad too.
The only surprise here would be if FaceTime DIDN’T come to Macs.
Face Time for Apple TV too?
@tiger
AT&T is Apple’s bitch not the other way around.
@ Sam
iChat has indeed had video chat for some time. Facetime is a different protocol that has yet to be integrated into iChat. You cannot current video chat Mac to iPhone. That’s what’s coming
I just want iChat!! I can’t stand aim, and meebo is a security risk
And it will be time to ditch GoogleTalk too…
@Sam Keys, iChat has been doing video since 2003. I have used it to chat with my family and friends since moving to Boston in December of that year. Also used in Israel in 2005 to talk to my (fiancé at the time) wife while there studying for 7 weeks.
Synthmeister, I use (OS X) Mail to sync notes between my Mac and iPhone, it’s an option in Mail.
Obviously they just want to sell lots of iPhones and touches right now. There’s absolutely no rush to get FaceTime onto the Mac. In fact, ten bucks says that it comes to iPad (yes, iPad) before Windows FOR SURE. Possibly before Mac, too.
It’s really not about your convenience. It’s about making money.
@ Synthmeister
You can sync Notes between your iPhone and Mac but you have to tick the box in the iPhone options list in iTunes – it’s not set up to do so automatically.
