What did ‘Antennagate’ do to Apple iPhone 4 sales?  Nothing

Apple Online Store“Remember just a few weeks ago, when all we heard about was the flaw in Apple’s iPhone 4 antenna? After the most successful product launch in the company’s history, many were wondering whether that controversy might significantly dampen iPhone 4 sales,” The Motley Fool’s Fool TV reports.

“Investors might be interested to know whether this really did hurt sales,” Fool TV reports. “Fool analyst Rex Moore says we’ll find that this brouhaha had almost no effect. He did some channel checks, and nearly two months after its launch, the iPhone 4 is still hard to find. New units are only trickling in to AT&T and Best Buy stores, and they tend to sell quickly. Things aren’t much different at Wal-Mart, and Apple’s online store is quoting three weeks for shipping.”

Fool TV reports, “The bottom line is that ‘Antennagate’ had no material effect on sales. A more likely damper could come in the form of these supply constraints. Investors should hope to see some phones flooding into stores in the next month or so before the holiday season hits.”

  1. Don’t bother trying to reason with the two trolls at the beginning of this thread. They are probably just wannabe Gizmodo writers who hate Apple.

Facts only frighten and confuse them and their talking point sized brains.

I am sure that everyone in this forum is proud of your careful review of the iPhone 4 antenna issue. However, your blatant condescension in stating that “…most customers Apple depends upon don’t rationalize before making their purchases. They just want it to make a fashion statement, a status symbol or satisfy a tech buying urge” is offensive.

On this forum, that type of condescension can only be applied with users of Windows PC and related devices.

  3. Run for the hills everybody!!! I can’t believe I didn’t realize what a follower, sucker, moron I’ve been! I spent my hard earned money on this new phone to help my business and personal life, assuming it would be more advanced and work better than my trusty 3G of the past two years. It sure SEEMS like it does EVERYTHING better, but now that I’ve been told the truth, I realize that I was wrong all along. Damn. What an idiot I’ve been. Thanks for the heads-up. That Jobs bastard has made me fork over even more money, again, based only on the fact that his company’s products have made my business run FAR more smoothly, nearly 100% trouble-free, etc… When I tested the first OS X I said, geez this is unusable, but looks like a cool idea. Sure hope more people jump on board so maybe this can become something. Fast-forward to today, I’m saying, geez these fully developed products are so incredibly refined and advanced that I’m constantly surprised at how thoroughly they’ve anticipated my needs and how well thought out and designed the solutions are. I am such a sucker…

I guess the beauty of it is that I couldn’t care less about other people’s opinions. I don’t get paid to sell anybody’s wares. You probably think people would be better off if they subscribed to your religion too. Think harder Homer…

It is said that you know more about a person when he speaks of others than the things he say about those others.

In the case of Anonymous Coward he is criticizing himself.

Every time I heard of a person that criticize the ones that buy Apple products by saying “fanboys” or worst, I think they cannot comprehend that you made a thoughtfully election and not just an impulsive one.

    Stupid is as stupid does®

  5. how do we know that demand and sales would not have been double or triple what they have been

but we’ll never know how much stronger they’d be

Sorry, but it must be asked: are you two fucking retarded? Within days of the release of the iPhone in each successive country, it was sold out, and supplies remained constrained. two to three week wait. What other metric do you need to know for a fact that “Antennagate” has had no effect whatsoever? Would the complete lack of iPhones in stores with a two week wait be more impressive if it was a 4 week wait?
