Right now, you can still get through to display pages, but the performance is definitely suboptimal, to use some NASA-speak.
It’s like MacDailyNews during a Steve Jobs’ keynote (except we don’t have $40+ billion in the bank to pay for bandwidth during high-capacity events).
We’ve been trying without success to download the Pandora update for the past 15 minutes.
Millions of clicks per second on the “Check for Update” button can’t be good for optimal iTunes Store performance.

[UPDATE: 2:15pm EDT: iTunes Store seems to be more responsive now. We have successfully downloaded a few apps and upgraded an old iPhone 3G to iOS 4. (Yes, we got hit with a traffic spike around 1pm EDT, too.)]
still hate you can’t add your own SMS sounds. how difficult is that to ask. oh wait they haven’t found a legit way to charge yet, thats right.
I love apple, but come one, this is one of those basic thing they should allow us to do. It’s not a feature that they have to wait “to do right”
other than that 18 mins install total, pretty good.
i’m with blah, blah, blah….
i don’t have any complaints about the current OS. i don’t care about a unified inbox, or multitasking(battery hogging). i’d just like to be able to download custom SMS and MMS sounds.
…oh, and have faster backups….30 minutes to back up on an i7 with 8GB RAM….
MDN magic word is “students,” as in a bunch of students could create a program with faster backups….
it just suck cuz when you are in a room fool of co-workers who have iphones it was funny 3 years ago when we all had the same SMS but now it’s flat right out a joke. I shouldn’t have to jailbreak my iPhone for this. out of 100 new features, this couldn’t be one for business users yes it’s a huge help for something simple as a tone to distinguish your phone tone from others.
I hope custom Message tones comes in 4.1 update.

there is no question, my music sounds better, tv shows are funnier, and movies are more dramatic. noticed in the weather app, forecast is sunnier.
Downloaded at 1015PST. Took a couple of minutes. Took a long time to backup the iPhone. Done by 1041PST. Easier than trying to buy iPhone 4 by a long shot, since I was never successful, and have to wait until July 6 to get my phone.
Of course, maybe I’m happy with my 3GS and iOS 4.0 and don’t need the iPhone 4.
why can you not put a full page worth of apps into a single folder??

ok all the bad download times how many were with at f t had at t update 30 mins to 1 hour now with time warner mins happy camper and apple jack nc above ground severs below ground govt work on outer space air craft that crashed at area 54 soon to replace airline companys lol
I’m going to wait to update for a while just to see what works and what doesn’t. Therealso might be som bugs and 4.0.1 is probably going to be released soon. It’s never wise to just rushing out to update.
