Apple today released Mac OS X 10.6.4 Update.
The 10.6.4 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard. It includes Safari 5 and general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac, including fixes that:

• address issues copying, renaming, or deleting files on SMB file servers
• improve reliability of VPN connections
• resolve a playback issue in DVD Player when using Good Quality deinterlacing
• resolve an issue editing photos with iPhoto or Aperture in full screen view
• improve compatibility with some braille displays
Mac OS X 10.6.4 is avalaible via Software Update and also via standalone installers.

MacDailyNews Take: Because their servers are running sooo smoothly today.
Sadly, my iMac is sick, so no snappy for Chrissy.
Refuse to ever update until Devs create appropriate Safari Extensions.
641.4 MB! To fix bugs most of us will never encounter.
My first home computer, a Performa from late 1995, had a whopping 800 MB hard drive, and I thought that was da bomb. Most people buying that model got a 500 MB drive.
I could also run Photoshop with 8MB RAM. Not well, but I could run it.
Is that what crapped out the iPhone 4 pre-orders? A 10.6.4 issue.
Awesome. I love it when the downloads are over 700MB worth. I know fer sure that I’m getting all of the experience with these huge files. I can’t wait for the 1 gig version soon.

i’m not exactly sure why all the crying for Mac OS X updates’ sizes…
they are totally not necessary if you’re using an eMac and a dialup
One of the best MDN takes I have ever read.
I was thinking earlier today – wait until next Monday when all of the legacy customers are going to try and update their iPhones and Touches to the new iOS.
Boy is it slooooow!
Didn’t Apple get grief when they released the iPhone 3G and a new version of iPhone OS on the same day in 2008?
What? No rumors of imminent release. We had no warning.
MDN Magic Word: what
I sure hope one of the Aperture 3 fixes makes it sync photos to iDevices in something other than random order!!!!
Huh, mine downloaded really fast and everything is snappy now
Download speed was over 400 kb/sec for me. MDN Take’s sarcasm does not apply to my experience today.
Thanks to the update to Mail MobileMe now pushes messages to more than mailboxes/folders than just the inbox.
Go for the Combo Updater. It weighs in at 887MB! Yoweee!
Did MDN blocked Safari’s Reader?
@ Frobots. No, article is too short for reader
I just installed 10.6 on a friends computer.. I just got a taste of a “1.2” gig download. Not fun on Time Warner cable. It bogs down daily at nearly the same time and around the time I got to the update.
🙁
I’ve got a MacBook Core Duo. Upgraded from 10.6.3, download ran to 364 MB, on FIOS it downloaded quickly, and took longer to install than download.
It IS snappy, though, especially Safari.
And for good measure, it resolves those listed issues not just once but TWICE.

I think I’m going to use the manual Combo Update this time, just because it’s been a while since my original Snow Leopard installation.
Oh heck my Mac Plus can’t handle this update. Whatever shall I do.
Ditto! Random pic sorting on iPhone and iPad was really really silly given that we gave money to Apple for that otherwise fine product (Aperture).
my download was 315.5 and it toke 3 minues
I don’t think there is any problem with the Apple server’s today – and for that matter, they have many many servers. I think the biggest problem today has been the verification with the AT&T;server. That’s what has created all the log jams…

Turn it into an iPad stand?
