Microsoft opens third retail store today in Denver

“Today’s a big day in suburban Colorado. Microsoft is coming to town, opening a new front in its well-publicized retail war with Apple,” Tim Beyers reports for The Motley Fool.

MacDailyNews Take: A “big day” for whom, exactly? And, some “war,” Tim. Microsoft has three empty boxes that have to dangle free concert tickets to get people to come to their opening vs. Apple’s 250+ retail store worldwide network that makes billions of dollars and generates long lines of people at grand openings and product releases, no concert tickets required.

Beyers reports, “I’m here, surveying the event and somewhat lengthy line, which appears to be comprised of as many fans of Disney Channel’s Demi Lovato as Microsoft technology. Why? The first 1,000 shoppers get tickets to a Lovato performance on Saturday at the Park Meadows Mall, where Apple and now Microsoft both have retail operations.”

MacDailyNews Take: Those three empty Microsoft Retail Stores are symbolic of a failed, visionless, derivative company. That said, “May Microsoft shareholders remain catatonic, so Steve Ballmer can remain Microsoft CEO for as long as it takes!”

  1. I look forward to buying something at The Apple Store at the Park Meadows Mall, having them bag it up, and then walking into to the Microsoft Store with a huge smile on my face knowing I have products in hand from a superior company.

  2. Might be a good place to use wifi. Look at all those chairs! Apple Stores have no chairs except those round rubber balls for the kids, and the stools at the Genius Bar and One-on-One tables.

“Surely somebody that visits MDN must live in the same region. Or did MS actually find locations that Mac is not?”

I walk by the MS store in the Shops At Mission Viejo usually once a week. It’s down the mall from the Apple store, near the food court.

This past week I had to go to the Apple store three times. Every time it was packed with customers, sales people, geniuses, and trainers. The place is always humming with activity.

The MS store, is filled with MS sales people standing around in blue, yellow, and red shirts looking forlorn with nothing to do. Seriously, I’m not making this up. About 4 or 5 customers usually, teens mostly, playing games on the 3D television.

  4. Apple should develop a few deliberately bad products and swear the future rests in those markets just to see if Microthought will follow them down the primrose path.

I swear looking at that picture I have no idea how those people can honestly look themselves in the mirror with a straight face. Have they no shame?

  5. And today the Motley Fools have taken a strong short position on AAPL. They predict AAPL will go low, possibly to $199. I know that has nothing to do with MS store, but this article is also from the Motley Fools.

  6. When will this Company Stop Shooting itself in the Foot ?

“Its not the Store but the Products You Morons”

Go back to what u are Known For.
(Make Software That someone might wanna use) Because Apple have Already Left u in the Dust and u Ain’t gonna Catch em again.

  7. If Ms wants a long line in front of their store, they should offer free PC tune-up (aka virus removal), where PC guru(?) will clean install an appropriate version of Windows.

  8. Someone should get two video cameras and film the stores whilst they’re open at the same time. My bet is that the M$ will be empty whilst the Apple store will be packed to the brim.

  9. Concert Tickets is SMART.

If they handed out free Windows Mobile phones there would be NO line.

A few weeks ago I was in San Francisco staying in a hotel near the Stockton Apple Store. It was jammed packed every day. Didn’t have a chance to try any of the gizmos.

  10. @Davewrite

    You stole my thunder…

I was wondering why Microsoft didn’t offer for free any one of its magnificent products such as X-Box 360, Zune or Windows Phone and how many customers would such an offering attract?

    Of course it is a great day for area Colorado Line Dancers… ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  11. The one in Mission Viejo, CA mall looked just like the picture at the top of the page when we went by on saturday. (On our way to the Apple Store, just down from the MS store)There were literally more employees in the store than customers. Then most of the customers were small children watching T.V. in the corner.

  12. Microsoft certainly is a glutton for punishment. They just HAVE to push forward with their LOSS LEADER enterprises if only to quell the ticked off throngs of shareholders.

Also: This month the MS produced “RETURN of the SON of FUD” is extremely evident in the press. If you can’t beat them, LIE about them!

It’s like the start of Duck Hunting Season. Got my gun cleaned, got my shells, ready to BLAST some TROLLS! YeeeeHaaaa!
