“Avatar is in contention for an Oscar because it dominated its field, both technologically and financially. But another cinematic player was even more dominant last year: Apple. In the 44 films in 2009 that topped the box office for at least one weekend, an Apple logo or device could be seen in at least 18 of them. (That’s almost 41%.) In some, Apple products even eclipsed their human scene partners,” Abe Sauer reports for The Awl. “This high appearance rate does not include the heap of mass-market films from 2009 that did not own a weekend but also featured Apple product placement.”
“Just to name a few of those? That list includes Drag Me to Hell, Orphan, I Love You, Man, Duplicity, Crank 2: High Voltage, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Imagine That, Sorority Row, Answer Man, Post Grad, I Love You Beth Cooper, All About Steve, Hurt Locker, New York, I Love You, It’s Complicated, Road Trip: Beer Pong, Law Abiding Citizen, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Funny People and Couples Retreat,” Sauer reports.
“These numbers also don’t include the mountain of other films and TV shows, from Macs on Regis and Kelly and Jimmy Fallon’s desks to the Mac grotesquerie of The Office and 30 Rock. Fruity logo out front, advertisement aglow,” Sauer reports. “For one month in 2009, product placement tracking service Nielsen IAG noted 62 total ‘occurrences’ of Apple products, more than any other brand, including AT&T (59), Coca-Cola (55) or Ford (41).”
Sauer reports, “Hamish Purdy, the assistant set decorator for Watchmen (which featured an Apple ‘Easter egg’) explains, to some degree, how this happens. ‘One thing we often have to deal with is ‘clearance’ to use a product on a set. If the item has been ‘product placed,’ clearance is inherent. Apple has always been willing to provide product for sets without too much hassle. Yeah, just so that is clear: Apple does not pay for any of this exposure.”

But okay, while we’re on the topic… FOX isn’t news. They’re an appeal to the emotions of the masses, who can’t be bothered to actually understand politics. Instead of reporting facts, they incite fear. They use straw men (“Scientists say”, “people are afraid”, and, worst of all, disagreement=”THE EVIL LIBERAL MEDIA”) and again, argue an appeal to the fears that ALL Americans have – even liberals don’t want a Big Brother gov’t, and you’d know that if you actually LISTENED to one instead of drowning them out with blind, angry rhetoric. *NOBODY* wants socialism, got that? Don’t equate setting up social/gov’t programs with socialism – if you do, you obviously don’t know what socialism actually is. Where did conservatives get this silly notion, by the way..?
(Oh, and if you still think social programs=socialism, GTFO of public schools, libraries, parks and highways. Don’t apply for medicare and medicaid either, don’t put your money in an FDIC-protected bank, don’t EVER send or receive anything in the mail, and so on… because you’d be supporting SOCIALISM)
And I’m certainly not trying to imply that the other news networks are much better. They’re not. TV news in general is a disaster, but FOX is the worst offender and they somehow convince their viewers that popularity=validity (when THEY say so). MICROSOFT is popular (by default, much the same way FOX is) but we hate them, right?
Think for yourselves, people. FOX is playing you for ratings and for a political agenda. These people do NOT care about you. Modern conservatives are ANYTHING BUT conservative, unless, again, you appeal to the emotions and see that they are ostensibly MORALLY conservative (except all of the recently uncloseted gay republicans – and I don’t have a problem with gays at all, but ones who build families then get caught? These are bad people who have NO moral scope, don’t give a shit about their family, and you turn a blind eye to them because OH NOES HUSSEIN OBAMA IS A SOCIALIST!)
But you know something? I don’t vote for someone based on their religious views, I vote for someone based on the feasibility of their POLITICAL AGENDA. I’ll go to CHURCH if I want to hear someone’s religious beliefs being espoused. Separation of church and state? Some of these far-right loons are trying to make them one and the same! THAT’S something you should be afraid of – and in a way, you already are… well, if the offending party has brown skin and a turban, anyhow.
And I would happily vote for a conservative republican if that’s what we actually HAD these days, but the Bush admin proved that conservative=moral crusader, not fiscally responsible. A good fiscal conservative with good ideas would certainly have my attention, as long as they didn’t try to push their moral scope onto the public.
So, here’s the TL;DR. FOX is trying to scare you into believing things that aren’t true or are grossly exaggerated. They use the false equivocation of popularity=validity, but it only applies to them. Everyone who disagrees with FOX is the evil liberal media, which is a HORRIBLE narrative to sell, because it shapes the public into an uncurious, uninformed army for a TRULY disturbing agenda. If you must watch FOX, PLEASE, PLEASE fact-check what you hear from INDEPENDENT sources – preferably NOT something else on TV.
If you read all of this and didn’t see “blah blah blah I’m a faggot liberal blah blah blah” I commend you and thank you, even if you don’t agree.
