The guy doesn’t stop being a complete tool just because he’s saying negative stuff about Google instead of negative stuff about Apple.

I’m the president of my group. Me and my dog. He’s the chairman.
He almost seemed reasonable, thoughtful, and believable during this interview. That was quite a shock to my mental picture of the man. However, we at MDN share years of experience with the deluge of idiocy that has regularly flowed from the Enderle “Group.” One decent interview does not a redemption make. An Enderle opinion still isn’t worth anything to me.

A war chest of $40B in cash and short term securities is also a powerful tool in favor of Apple. That kind of money can buy a lot of top-notch legal talent for as long as you need it.

Remember a long time ago when Steve Jobs came out at (an iPhone intro, IIRC) and said something to the effect of, “we’ve patented the crap outta this thing”? And if you’ve been watching Apple news over the past few years, you know Apple has filed a gazillion patents on a multitude of items. Apple will this suit and put a big hurtin’ to the “competition.”
…and make sure you pronounce that “nu-CU-lur” — the clock’s already been right for this 12 hours.
This may not be “nuclear” or “war”, but merely a perfectly normal and expectable part of technological evolution. Evolutionary in that Apple has a totally new concept (much of which is patentable) and in US patent law, you have to proactively and reasonably “protect” your IP, or eventually lose the right to do so.
Apple’s “new” IP concept is a totally redesigned, from the ground up, operating system that is completely multitouch. It is based on the OS Mach/BSD kernal and Apple-invented proprietary Cocoa-Touch. It is much more efficient, chip-power-wise, battery-wise, operating speed-wise, more stable and faster than the competition. The competition (Windows Mobile, etc.) evolved from basically a DOS command interface, overlaid with a graphical interface, overlaid with a mouse-pointer interface, overlaid with a so-called “touch” interface. The competition is locked into the “legacy” model of pasting inefficient and limited “look-alike” multitouch features on top of their legacy operating systems.
Apple has developed logical APIs and concepts fundamental to a true “MultiTouch operating system” that they must and will protect. The competitors must compete with their obsolete legacy operating systems (which are obviously inferior to the iPhone/iPad experience)…or they must re-engineer their operating systems from scratch for new multitouch operating systems, and design “around” Apple’s protected concepts…instead of just “copying” Apple.
Advantage to Apple. The iPhone operating system is headed for market domination of the same order as that of the iPod.
At least Apple doesn’t stab its “partners” in the back…
New Windows phones won’t run current apps
NEW YORK (AP) – Microsoft Corp. has said its new software for smart phones, Windows Phone 7 series, is a “clean break” with the past. Now it’s clear just how clean that break is: The new phones, expected late this year, won’t run any applications written for older versions of Microsoft’s phone software.
In a blog post Thursday, Microsoft executive Charlie Kindel, who handles contact with outside software developers, said that jettisoning support for older applications was necessary to make the new operating system as powerful and user-friendly as possible.
The announcement is perhaps most disappointing to companies that have created their own software to run on Windows phones issued to their employees. The news also leaves software developers with a dilemma: they can write applications for Windows Mobile 6.5, which will soon be a dead end, or they can write for Windows Phone 7, which isn’t coming out until later this year.
