  1. Now that’s research and not just another rumour piece fresh from the reliable person everyone seems to know these days.

I still maintain, if iPhone unveiling was any clue, Apple’s design will think differently. But at least these guys have a decent shot at it that is comparable with a context.

  2. the only thing I keep missing is the “why”? All this hullaballoo about a tablet that doesn’t fill a mysterious niche, doesn’t create a new way to compute, and frankly does nothing to replace the touch/iphone. I could see if they were doing the 10″ inch netMac for $500 with a touch panel replacing the keyboard, but the whole tablet market is rather pointless

  3. How long does before a rumored announcement event does Apple normally make the event official?

The rumor is that they will announce something on the 27th right? So that’s 2 weeks from today. Wouldn’t they need to make it official like real quick to give people a chance to make plans to attend?

  4. Here’s my guess: the tablet will feature tactile feedback (haptic).
This time, Apple will be making physical keyboards 100% irrelevant.
People are still trying to figure out multi-touch, well, more is coming.
It’s funny how analysts don’t report that much on this possible feature.

Yep, I’m really looking forward to eh… whatever it’ll be called.
I still remember my first thoughts when I took my iPhone from it’s box: this is heavyer and bigger than my current phone. But it didn’t take me long to realise that, because of the near-perfect shape and the smooth surfaces, it actually was much more comfortable to carry around and use. I count on Apple playing this trick again; I’d love to have a “big iPhone”!

Oh yes, every one on your list is using a tablet right now, and they are waiting for Apple to bring them into the next century with a touch screen. That’s why tablets are such a huge market and Apple’s so late getting their slice. NOT

    Tablets are ludicrous.

  8. @ShadowOfDoubt

Everyone on that list could benefit from an intuitive, lightweight, hand-computer,
(I think I will coin that word), that does not need to be opened or held by two hands. Why did HP and those that came before Apple fail ? one word, wait for it,
    wait for it, Windows.

Taah Daadh , By the way Shadow, lighten up !!!

  9. @genus

Still haven’t heard a reason for the tablet that isn’t covered by the touch or a mac book. Hold it in one hand and point with your finger? That’s the touch. email/web/apps? touch. Bigger screen? laptop.

Not that Apple can’t go back on itself and make a net mac book. And Apple could stick their logo on a jacket and the faithful will run out and buy it but that still doesn’t answer the question… ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”question” style=”border:0;” />

  10. Touch/iPhone is limited to those who can read/deal with the small screen; both my parents-in-law would benefit from a device with a larger screen for mobile Web surfing, book/document reading (my MIL was just commenting that most hardcovers are too big for her to handle, especially in bed), etc. In fact, my MIL has been in the hospital & intermediate care since New Year’s; a tablet loaded with some good movies and books, plus a good set of headphones, would have been perfect. Not everyone has eyes that can handle the iPhone/touch sized screen.

  11. @justme2

I agree with that eye-sight business.
Problem is that when screen resolution goes up, the relative size of menus and dialogues goes down.
Just saw the 27″ iMac for the first time, and while the screen if fabulous for movies etc, I really had to squint, to read program messages, etc.

Therefore, I hope the tablet offers font-size and GUI adjustments, to allow your MiL and me, to read for extended periods of time.
