  1. Apple either will or will not release a tablet computer which may or nay not have a camera with a price between free and $1 million running either Mac OSX, the iPhone OS, some other OS, or no OS at all.

…at least that’s what my dog told me, and he is sometimes close to accurate on these guesses.

  2. It wouldn’t really need a camera… just plug your “camera” into it’s usb port.

However, I was thinking this thing might use a provider or a wireless internet connection to video converence. That would have been cool…

  3. Rumors have it that the iTablet will actually be called eyeTablet, for it has a human replica of an EYE instead of the old fashioned web-cam ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” /> now, THAT’s true innovation!

  4. RUMOR: There will be no iSlate/iPad, etc… it’s all just a ploy to keep the competition guessing what Apple will do next. I heard Apple is actually working with Microsoft to develop a new version of Windows that actually works well.

  5. Apple as announced nothing! I repeat NOTHING!
    Rumors mean nothing!
Apple might just announce the New iPhone/iPod touch OS and maybe a newer faster iPhone or even just lower prices on the current iPhone 3Gs and drop the 8GB 3G model.
Apple is the only one that knows for sure.
    One more thing!
Apple could introduce a new game changing device that is not a Slate or Tablet or Netbook or eBook Reader and has nothing to do with any of them.

Rumor and speculation means nothing when the subject is Apple. Other then Apple as already changed the Tablet market by shear rumor. Think of it all the PC makers as rushed to spend millions to design new tablet PC and a few days maybe a week before CES when all these PC Tablets are to be shown someone finds islate.com might possibly have been bought by Apple with no direct concrete proof. But, all the industry needed was the rumor and at CES all the Tablet PCs were called slates. Now that is what I call Apple’s Power to transform a Market. A Market that well is still dead and a market that the punters see as being a very limited and uninteresting market to boot.

What I would find will more interesting in terms of a Slate or Tablet type device is not another device at all but a 10″ multi touch external monitor docking station/ case with a built-in large capacity battery for my current iPhone or iPod touch. I don’t need another device that has my data an Apps but some times a larger screen would be nice.

Tap a current market that Apple already has without creating a New one. Think about it.

  6. “RUMOR: […] its going to have video conferencing, its not going to have a camera at all.”

Actually, it was use an innovative process where it will take the picture you use for yourself and show the lips moving while you speak. Depending on your inflection, it will also adjust the eyes, eyebrows, and other facial muscles.

So you won’t need a camera to do video conferencing. You’ll just need a picture of yourself and the iTablet will do all the rest.

Apple will also sell a “Hollywood” pack where you can replace your picture with Brad Pitt, Julianne Hough, Johnny Depp, Brooke Burke, or Peter Andre.

  7. to continue the speculation on an unknown device with unknown specs and form factor….

if the “tablet” was just a bigger form factor iphone, just how would a camera work for video chat?

would you have to prop it up against the wall — then how would you “gesture”? if flat on the desk or lap, would folks get tired of looking up your nose and counting your nose hairs? not something I would want to stare at for long in a video chat

…as to stills, how would you take stills? holding it in two hands, running around taking a shot? how nerdy is that?

it seems to me that you need a certain form factor to make a built-in camera really work…..maybe this unknown device isn’t that form factor?

  8. @MediaXYZ: “Apple had a patent granted a couple of years ago where they talked about integrating a camera into an LCD display (not in the surround, but interspersing CCD elements into the spaces between the LCD pixels). Maybe “no camera” really means ‘no separate camera’?”

Exactly! That would allow 3D control gestures where your fingers don’t actually touch the screen. That fits with the “interacting WAY differently” and “steep learning curve” rumors.
