Mac OS X 10.6.3 build shows partial support for OpenGL 3.0

Christmas PD5FM $10 discountAccording to netkas.org, Apple’s developer build of Mac OS X 10.6.3 contains support for OpenGL 3.0 although “specific functions aren’t present yet, but most of modern gpu’s functionality is now possible to use via extensions.”

OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) is a standard specification defining a cross-language, cross-platform API for writing applications that produce 2D and 3D computer graphics. OpenGL 3.0 added support for geometry shaders, frame buffer objects, hardware instancing, vertex array objects, and sRGB framebuffers (gamma 2.2). OpenGL 3.0 also introduced a deprecation mechanism to simplify the API in future revisions.

  1. I hope Apple finally starts to really optimize Open GL in a more committed way. In my experience, it is the only aspect where Windows is still much more advanced than the Mac, so Apple should double there effort to eliminate that last of the Windows advantages.

  2. Well done CRAPPLE on partially supporting OpenGL 3.0 LOL. Look at you guys following Microsoft Windows footsteps on supporting industry standard graphic technologies which we already have for a longtime. Can a MAC beat my PC? NOPE!

    Windows 7 rules!

  3. @I’m a PC;

    Last I checked, Mac OS X users have 0 viruses vs. Windows 97,467.

    By God you’re right!
    We’re miles behind Windows, and falling further everyday.

    Source-Bing.com, thanks for the tip!

  4. Clearly, “I’m a PC” is a WinBloze gamer . . . and that is ALL he is.

    Playing with his “boss” Alienware PeeCee in his mother’s fungus-lined basement, he’s more than a little content to put up with all the BSOD’s (Black and Blue), and viruses, and spywares, and adwares, and trojans, and worms, and Zero-Day exploits, and UAC/bootkit vulnerabilities, and crippling hardware incompatibilities, and autorun tricks, and Server Service vulnerabilities, and . . . and . . . and . . .

    Aw, that’s enough for the poor, deluded b*st*rd to deal with right now. It’s time for “Beanie and Cecil” on Mom’s console TV, and he would NOT want to miss THAT!

    Luckily they’re not following your opinion on the Mac vs. Windows fight, which hasn’t been interesting in about 15 years. Its about Mobile now.

  6. @mike
    Sure, and movies like Avatar will be created in tablets and iPhones?

    If you don’t see something lacking on the Mac platform, is not because the problem is not there. It is only that you don’t relay on that feature. Open GL suck on a Mac and it shines on Windows, regardless of what is happening on the Mobile now segment.
