“Apple’s long rumored tablet could have a surprisingly low price, based on an unusual rumor from the latest episode of Revision3 show Diggnation (viewable below),” Electronista reports.
“Following prompting from Digg founder Kevin Rose, who insisted his co-host ‘heard about something’ related to the device, fellow presenter Alex Albrecht reluctantly claimed shortly before the halfway point of the show to know that the tablet would be less expensive than he and likely others would expect,” Electronista reports. “‘I was shocked at how cheap the price point was going to be,’ he said, only half-teasing that he may or may not be serious.”
Electronista reports, “The podcast also provides a few minor revelations from guest John Hodgman about his role as ‘PC’ in Apple’s ‘Get a Mac’ ads, [including] that it’s rare for him to receive free products. Early into the campaign, he did receive a free iPod and MacBook Pro, but has paid for everything else since.
MacDailyNews Note: He also states, “I have been a Mac user since 1984.”

“@Handsome Smitty
A fascist is a neocon is a replublican is a conservative is a sociopathic chickenhawk war monger who likes war deficits compared to actually providing care for it’s own countries citizens, who is an ankle grabbing Limbaugh corporatists that would sell out his own mother if it makes him a few more bucks or lowers taxes for billionaires who don’t care about him anyways.”
Wow, stealing my name. Imitation is the highest form of flattery.
It’s almost every fucking topic now. Do you know how retarded you political trolls would sound spewing Mac vs PC stuff on a topic dealing with the wars in the middle east, or the economy or climate change?
Oh BOY, a Mac forum, the PERFECT place to barf up all of my political views, because people WILL give a shit what I think!
Or maybe, they’ll be fucking PISSED because they come here to read about *******************MAC******************* related stuff!!! Not whether or not liberals are flaming socialist pinkos or conservatives are misogynistic fetus huggers! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
Of course it will be inexpensive. Cheap enough so a family of 4 could have 2 or 3 along with their Macs. Cheap enough to be an add-on impulse buy when a person buys a MacBook.
Agreed. You sound like uninformed, reactionary idiots.
“DX
Agreed. You sound like uninformed, reactionary idiots.”
“Uninformed” – tell me, what do you read. You and Jobs probably get along just fine, snobs r u.
An ive been an Apple user since 1982 with my Apple IIe
big deal
Sorry, but I have NEVER seen cheap Hardware from Apple. They have made some software affordable, but the hardware has always been premium priced. See no reason that will change this time around.
Kevin said the iPhone would have a slide out keyboard and two batteries. What does he know?
How many crappy video players are going to be developed? Some of us do not have great bandwidth and no option to make it better. Just use youTube or iTMS video podcast and stop wasting everyones time with half developed, sub-optimal junk. Please. It your time is worth developing an hour long show, don’t make it a six hour, herky-jerky ordeal to watch it. Get over yourselves and use what works.
These idiots don’t know anything. I’m sure Apple is toying with the idea, but I’m not sure we will ever see the iTablet. If we do, it isn’t going to cost $500.
At least John Hodgman was funny.
PC is a Mac user? I wonder if the advertising firm working for M$ realized their stupidity by now!
Just boring…. boring…. and boring! I didn`t reach to watch the first 10 Min.
Will “I’m a PC” be the new Zune Tang?
Since the Zune is pretty much dead, perhaps is time to move the “the next big thing”…
Mr Rose and Mr Albrecht are entitled to their opinions. And I am entitled to quit watching after 2 minutes of invasive advertising and navel-gazing.
Chaz is right, Apple has never made cheap products and likely never will. I believe that Apple and only Apple can make a tablet computer right. But we’re going to have to wait for it.
Btw, @BotonCandy.
The term liberal IS a pejorative.
I wonder if it will be cheap because it will be subsidized as part of a wireless plan?
@Grifterus — How do we know they’re not one and the same dude?
As for the tablet, make it Bluetooth-enabled, encourage 3rd-party developers to produce portable keyboards that would connect via Bluetooth (for those who have a hard time with touchscreen keyboards), no FireWire port but a couple of USB ports (so folks could use wireless modems from their own cell carrier if they’re out of range of WiFi or plug in flash drives for document backup on the road), and that could probably lower the cost considerably. If they can do a white MacBook for $999, I can certainly see the iTablet somewhere in the sub-$1000 range.
