• iPod touch 1.1.2 Update
Some notes:
• TIFF Exploit patched so JailBreakMe no longer works (More at Engadget)
• “Add Event” function added to to the iPod touch calendar application (More at MacNN)
• Reported performance increases (iPhone gets even snappier!)
• iToner ringtone maker still works (Thanks to MacDailyNews reader “Jeff” for the heads up.)
• Battery icon shows charging status, level for devices in iTunes
• International languages, keyboard enabled
• TUAW reports that iPod touch 1.1.2 Update has already been jailbroken
No real user enhancements other than language support, huh. I’m sure I’ll upgrade though

My calls just got snippier.
But on the plus side, music is now my dogcowfriend.
I’m leaving work soon to go to my local Carphone Warehouse to try to get an iPhone but before I go, I just want to say this to my fellow purchasers:
Good morning. In less than an hour, Macheads from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest smartphone battle in the history of mankind. “Mankind.” That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can’t be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it’s fate that today is the Ninth of November, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom… Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution… but from inferior cellphone companies. We are fighting for our right to talktime. To email. And should we win the day, the Ninth of November will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: “We will not go quietly into the night!” We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! Today we celebrate our iNdependence Day!
snappy snappy snappy!
My iPhone just turned into a Zune!
Good one, Dirty Pierre!
Now all we need to save the world is a Morse Code widget?
“snappy snappy snappy!
My iPhone just turned into a Zune!”
Isn’t snappy a good descriptor? Whatever do you mean by that?
My iTunes is broke.
No-wait. That’s my bank account.
My iTunes still doesn’t list the update.
wait! how the hell am i supposed to get this to the iphone? i dont get it…atleast post the process of getting the files to the iphone MDN
has anyone verified the source of this. May be legit, but I have no way of knowing.
to install it click the restore button in iTunes while holding down cmd-crtl (then navigate to the dl’s file (unzipped)
allright for folks that do not know how to get the zip file to the iphone, here it is:
download the link,
go to itunes, and while holding the option/alt key, hit the “check for updates” in ur phone tab. a window will pop up and just select the zip file and hit ok. that should automatically take care of it. thanx MDN for makin it so easy **roll eyes**
“Add Event” function added to to the iPod touch calendar application
This is huge for anyone who uses iCal or OutLook.
I’d sure like to see them bring back “Notes” to the iPod Touch.
MW “include”… nuff said.

@ Dirty Pierre le Punk.
V is for Victory.
…All it takes to bring down makers of terrible cell phones is a drunk crop duster with a vengeance?
Sweet!
…Where’d I put that bottle of Wild Turkey…
Checking for update, not available here on the West Coast just yet
No update here in the midwest – did the check for updates – nuttin
Heres how to do it manually
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-4037.20071107.5Bghn/iPhone1,1_1.1.2_3B48b_Restore.ipsw
do a manual update via iTunes’ firmware updater. Just ctrl or option click on the restore button then direct it towards the zip file and iTunes will do the rest.
@ Dirty Pierre le Punk: Well said. That’s part of what I and my (just made) friends felt here in the states as we stood in line back on iPhone Frinday in late June. We also felt comfortably warm, but you guys can keep your upper lips just really stiff and not be bothered by miserable weather, right?! Hope you have fun. In any case, I’m sure you won’t regret your purchase!
Holy shit, Apple got the idea of the battery indicator in iTunes from me!
Remember months ago, right here on MDN, I made the suggestion in comments and you guys pointed me to a place on the Apple website where you can submit ideas to them? Well I did it and low and behold, you can see when your battery is charged right there in iTunes!
Maybe Steve will contact me for more of R2’s bright ideas.
The battery indicator is also available when connecting an iPod Classic too.
Hey, R2, use some of that pull to get movie rentals.
Also, does anyone know if Al made it to that whale in time?….
Wow, turned on my iPhone’s Camera (helps to buy it dinner first)
Held it up to the screen with this article so it could get a real good look-see
Yep, instant snappier-ness
BC
When I point to the zip file:
it opens the file.. menaing I have to choose one of the files in the zip.
If I choose any file- it errors out, and deletes the file.
It is not as simple as pointing to the zip file for me- anyone else running into this?
“Also, does anyone know if Al made it to that whale in time?….”
Not sure, but I do know that Tipper makes him blubber.
Ok- maybe its leopard- but if the file is not zipped- it will cause the behavior above.
To rectify the issue- just rezip it and then point to it.
sheesh.
nevermind- that errors out too.
fuck it. too much trouble.
“Also, does anyone know if Al made it to that whale in time?….”
Yes, Mr. Gore did save the whale in time, but unfortunately like Jonah, he is now inside the whale.
Does the option update trick work with iPhone Firmware on iPod touch?
” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”raspberry” style=”border:0;” />
Would provide us with widgets, mail and maps!
Did upgrade. Seems snappier but other than that no big changes I can see.
Please, O freaking, please, if anyone from Apple is reading this, add the ability to authenticate iPhone on an 802.1x wireless network!!!
update available to west coast through iTunes
no it is not.
I want lyrics. Being able to add an event to the calendar on the itouch will be nice.
@ David, u dont need to restore all that stuff….all u have to do is look at my previous post. its much easier that way. sometimes its easy to confuse and restore ur phone without updating it….i think

Are you guys using leopard to manually update? or is this on tiger?
People are confused about the manual update because their computers are automatically unzipping the file.
Go to your Trash. Drag the original .zip file to your desktop. Go to iTunes. Option click the Check for Updates button. Navigate to the .zip file on your Desktop. Boom!
im still a tiger :/
oh yes. Don’t auto unzip. I recall mdn advising disabling that feature and I did. Sorry I did not point that out.
112 is smoother so far
manual update errors out even on zipped file
guess we’ll have to wait for itunes
I don’t get it. How do you set up your computer to not automtically unzip (or decompress) files when you get them off the net?
I downloaded the .zip but it opens by itself, and I can’t install the update on my iPhone.
Thank you for letting me know.

Thanks Isergy
Nice… I just installed the update and it’s brilliant.
For all the people out there using accents when typing in another language.
Here is how you do it:
click on “e” on the touch keyboard and stay pressed on it. A couple of “e” with accents will pop up: “é,” “è,” etc.
Hey there! I just noticed that the new update had an Asian Font setting in the preferences.
What is that!? I set it to Japanese, but I can’t type anything in Japanese on my iPhone! That would be great to be able to do that, because I actually do speak and write Japanese
thanks
The adding accents works with version 1.1.1 as well, don’t know if it worked with previous versions as I accidentally stumbled on this just about 10 days ago.
I use accents all the time as my primary language is Spanish, but I had been doing without them until I realized this feature was around.
It is the attention to little details like these that makes me feel good about choosing Apple products.
In addition to lyrics on the touch, I want to have my Top 100 Played Songs, when sync’d with my touch, to show up on the touch in Play Count order instead of whatever seemingly random order it does it now.

I have tried to update my iphone and itouch on both my pc and Power Mac running Leopard and holding down the ctrl or alt/option keys does not do anything or let me search for the files??? HUH
On your PC its the shift key that you hold down.
So, let me get this straight, a bunch of folks are mooching round all blogs with a link to the update and beefing on about it, yet don’t have the tech powers to jailbreak their pods.
If you can’t point itunes to a zip, you reeally, really won’t mange to get hacky with your pods.
Lameos.
The Preparing iPod for Update comes up, and stays there then it says iPod can not be updated and it disconnects my iPod, any ideas why?
as of 11-12-07 at 5 PM v.1.1.2 is now available from iTunes, and I am in the middle of the download.
