More photos from Apple’s iPhone launch in Cologne, Germany

It was a cold and wet night in Cologne, Germany, but over 300 customers lined up outside the T-Mobile store waiting for 00:01 CET on Friday 11/9 for the premiere of the Apple’s phone in Europe.

Nicola Leske reports for Reuters, “Hundreds of Apple (AAPL.O) fans braved rain and wind in the German city of Cologne early Friday morning to be among the first in Europe to get their hands on the coveted iPhone.”

“A few hundred people lined up at a Deutsche Telekom (DTEGn.DE) shop, where its mobile communications unit T-Mobile allowed customers to buy the music-playing and Web-browsing device at midnight before the phone goes on sale across the country later in the day,” Leske reports.

“When iPhones went on sale on June 29 in the United States, Apple fans endured heat and downpours to queue for days to buy what has been dubbed the “Jesus Phone” by Internet bloggers who see it as the ultimate mobile device,” Leske reports.

“The iPhone goes on sale in the UK at 1800 GMT on Friday. In France it will be available at the end of the month,” Leske reports.

  1. “British telecoms group Vodafone (VOD.L) lost out to T-Mobile and Telefonica’s (TEF.MC) O2 and France Telecom (FTE.PA) to sell the iPhone but will start selling a similar multimedia handset from Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) on Friday.”

Start selling a similar handset? I’m surprised MDN let that one go without comment.

I’m also surprised how some reporters just never seem to get it.

  2. Where is the iPhone update that was supposed to come out today and enable users to switch from English to something else? I’ve been sying to change my iPhone to French to be able to send assignments to my students in proper French, with accents and such.

  3. @ ポール If you want to do diacritics, just press and hold the proper alphabetic key. (Assuming you’re on 1.1.1.) For example, to get an umlaut over a “u” press and hold the “U” key. The pop-up will change, allowing you to choose the appropriate diacritic. No need to wait for the 1.1.2 update.
