Apple’s iPhone is now officially capable of pumping video out to TVs and monitors…
The pages for the Apple Composite AV Cable and the Apple Component AV Cable now clearly list iPhone among their supported devices lists.
The Apple Composite AV Cable (US$49, Ships: 3-4 weeks) supports:
• iPod with color display
• iPod with video
• iPod nano 3rd generation (aluminum)
• iPod classic
• iPod touch
• iPhone
The Apple Component AV Cable (US$49, Ships: 2-3 weeks) supports:
• iPod nano 3rd generation (aluminum)
• iPod classic
• iPod touch
• iPhone

I don’t think anyone has this new cable yet… the online store says it doesn’t ship for weeks. We’ll probably see the next firmware update before then (also enabling the wi-fi store).
The old-style cable ran through the headphone jack and most certainly doesn’t work with the iPhone.
Wow. Now I won’t have to worry about the iPhone being compatible with my TV or dumb features like WiFi streaming ’cause Apple’s going to let me do it with a simple cable instead.
I have a composite cable I bought for my iPod Video last spring. I tried it with the iPhone the day I bought it and (obviously) the jack did not fit. However I gently tore off the outer shell of the minijack and then it was able to slide right into the iPhone. I was able to hear the audio of whatever I played from the iPhone, but no video.
I was bummed! I too want to be able to use my iPhone for presentations and I hope that will be possible sooner rather then later. I also hope the output won’t be limited to just videos from the iPod side, I would like to do demos OF the iPhone at my Mac users’ group. Now there’s a hack worth some money…
I don’t see iPhone listed as compatible with these cables.

Yeah franco, they were yesterday when the cables were first posted, but that mistake has been corrected. Making this whole story completely bogus.
There is a tiny chance that the “mistake” anticipates a new feature that will be announced later in an iPhone firmware update, but there’s no evidence of that.
No longer shows as supported, as of today. I have been following this closely, and it looks like a mistake (I am guessing because the iPod Touch is supported).
Dang it.
However, the Component cables show on the iPhone Cables & Docks page. Composite cable is missing from that section.
the iPhone still does not have video out ability. I checked with two different apple reps on two different days. They obviosly didn’t have an answer because they put me on hold for atleast 5 mins each. When they came back, they both stated the cable will do audio out but not video on the phone
