Analyst Munster: WWDC all about Leopard, new MacBook Pros, not iPhone; 6G iPod coming ‘early autumn’

Apple Store“Apple will not be showing off its much-vaunted iPhone at June’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), according to… PiperJaffray analyst Gene Munster,” Gregg Keizer reports for PC Advisor.

Keizer reports, “CEO Steve Jobs will flesh out previously undisclosed features of its forthcoming new operating system (Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard), announce new MacBook Pro models, and possibly a revamped iMac desktop lineup.”

“Speculation is rife that Apple will show LED-backlit MacBook Pros using the new Intel Santa Rosa chipset,” Keizer reports. “Munster also predicted that a widescreen iPod (essentially a stripped iPhone) would ship in early autumn [for aroun] US$399.”

  1. @Mr. Peabody and Martin

Read the headline again about the iPod. It’s 6G as in 6th generation not 6Gb as in gigs.

There’s no mention of what storage size this guy, who is basically paid to guess, thinks the iPod will be.

  2. Tues. 5/29, the replacement for the MacMini – only the name is gone, not the product. WWDC – new Macbook Pros & iMacs. iPhone – end of June. Video iPod ala dumbed dwon iPhone – August. New Apple TV and iTunes 720 movies in the Fall.

  3. Im happy about this as im waiting to switch to a mac being a whole time windows user, and am lookingforward to the macbook pro but havent made a move on one yet as was waiting for it to be refreshed

    WWDC is for developers!

  4. Man, those glossy screens are the pits! Have you ever tried working on one for an extended period of time in real-world lighting? BAD bad bad!

I’ve heard that glossy screens look fab in you mom’s basement.

Apple DOES have matte screened laptops… MacBook Pro! The only way to go!

I’m using a horrible XP box at the in-laws place in Sofia, Bulgaria. Hardly anyone uses Macs here… poor bastards! Good thing I’ve got my PowerBook nearby!

  5. This ‘anal’-yst, Gene Munster, shows his complete ignorance by talking about all this stuff being introduced on June 14th.

That’s three days after the keynote, which is on the June 11th.

So much for him being in the know!

  6. Until Apple releases the means for developers to write programs for the iPhone, there’s no need to talk about the iPhone at WWDC. Those folks could care less about iPhone — they’re busy making The Next Big Thing for the Mac, which means they need Leopard.

And fall makes sense for a new iPod — just in time for the holiday shopping season.

Wow, so they won’t be spending time on a consumer product at a developer’s conference? I’m flabbergasted!

Good Job, Lord Robin. I was going to say the same thing but figured I’d better check the comments first.

  8. Somehow, I don’t think developers are like pure mathematicians who spend countless hours delving into multiple dimensions, chaos theory, and information theory. Those developers showing up at WWDC are probably more like applied mathematicians – seeking a buck for designing new software and devices for consumers.
