Apple Computer has posted their latest iPod ad online, this time for their new second generation (2G) iPod shuffle.
The new iPod shuffle TV ad features “Who’s Gonna Sing?” by The Prototypes and shows various male and female torsos clipping their iPod shuffles onto their clothing with an interesting morph-like transition between each person – somewhat reminiscent of (dare-we-say-it?) the end of Michael Jackson’s “Black and White” video (in overall feel, not the exact same “morph” technique, of course).
It can be seen via QuickTime here: http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/ads/

The big stocking stuffer of ’06 Holiday season.
That is amazing. Make sure you watch it more than once, there’s a lot of going on in between each “scene”. Wowzer! Now compare it to any of the heavy, dark and incoherent Zune ads. QED
Great Ad! Fresh look for Apple – will sell many boatloads of Shuffles!
Nice.
“Put some music on.”
Pretty clever, too. I like it a lot.
Saw this more than a couple times this evening on NBC and/or FOX…cannot remember exactly
But man, this is going to be the runaway holiday gift. And this ad really helps to set it apart from other similar mp3 players.
Really cool ad. Was a bit choppy when it first played, so I didn’t notice the transitions, but wow, I’ve watched it 10 times now. Already a hit.
Better than “Welcome to the Social” … titter. MW: changes – LOL!
WTF is a/the “social” any way?
Getting a Zune is like getting herpes from a toilet seat. All you got was pain and suffering and none of the pleasure.
Zune: welcome to the social disease. Thankfully, this one doesn’t spread very well at all.
Cool. Shows off the device (what it looks like and how to use it) while being entertaining. What more can you ask of a commercial. Apple will sell as many iPod shuffles as it can make…
Trey,
That ‘Quantegy’ song on your solo album really sucked.
I’ve been meaning to tell you that for a number of years.
-c
MW: ‘complete’ (waste of time, like talking style with Steve Ballmer)
i like it.. it’s funny cuz the first thing the geeks did when they saw it was.. “HEY! CAN I BREAK THE CLIP OFF TO MAKE IT HALF AS THICK?”
The clip is very cool and useful. Slick.
Where’s the ZuneTab?
Chrissy, you crack me up! 😀
Nice ad, it definitely caught my eye when I saw it on TV tonight.
Saw the commercial during CSI:Miami. My daughter loves it.
The social is probably some weird Microsoft party where Bill Gates hits on everyone, and they can’t stop him because there’s no menu selection for it.
very nice. i like it alot.
so much better than those dodgy zune ads.
Now THAT is a good ad, the best iPod ad yet.
It really shows that Microsoft hasn’t a clue, and shows that how poorly targeted & executed the Zune ads are.
Strapline, “put some music on”, is just pure genius.
I wasn’t really interested in a Shuffle as the original iPod Mini I have is still going strong (battery is still fine also – to all those Windows zombies who say the battery lasts only 12 months), but this ad has made me think that I could maybe do with one of these.
This is from someone who doesn’t part with his cash easily – so this ad certainly works. They’re gonna sell tons.
“Now THAT is a good ad, the best iPod ad yet.”
Made me think that iPod owners are supposed to be trans-gender cross dressing fashion victims who don’t have a clear sense of their personal style.
WOW, Nice ad!!! That a 45 year old can relate to FOR ONCE.
Duh….The ‘social’ is where people go to squirt. See how music related it is.
Wow. The shuffle is turning out to be the must-have gift of the year. I think I should go buy a few before shopping rush. Nice job Apple.
The “social” is obviously way too advanced for you iPod lemmings to understand. Microsoft is once again creating a new market and platform with Zune and Apple will once again half to play catch up. Microsoft isn’t coming too late to a market with a “me too” product. That’s not their style. Microsoft is a trailblazer. You can’t squirt anything with that itty-bitty shuffle. Wow, I can clip it on! Big deal. Wait ’til you see the Zune accessories for attaching the Zune to things.
I get the feeling you Apple fanboys think someone pitched a half-baked combination myspace element + MP3 player at Microsoft because they heard both were popular with teenagers and they bit because they couldn’t come up with any better ideas. You’re wrong. Microsoft has a lot of fantastic ideas. Get on board before it’s too late. This is only the beginning.
Welcome to the Social.
Actually those aren’t morphs at all. Nothing like the technique used for the Jackson video.
What was used here is layer compositing. Think Photoshop layers… but in motion.
Zune Tang? Sputnick, is that you?
I think Zune Tang has been drinking too much Kool-aid.
